It's been a hell of a week of blood letting and not a peep out of the clueless so called "leadership" team of Teradata. The fact that they have not spoken to the remaining employees or media throughout this RIF speaks volumes. Why these guys get to keep their jobs after obviously being asleep at the wheel for many years is beyond reason. Shareholders need to hold the senior executives accountable for driving this bus into the ditch. This is not even close to being a similar situation as Apple, Steve Jobs is NOT in the building. Sorry Mike you should have stepped down while we still had some dignity and a chance to remain an industry leader; now we will make a heck of a HBR Case Study in running a great company into the ground.

Interesting just saw the vid and I only wish TDC mgt is brave enough to face facts same way Apple's did. Apple was indeed viewed as a basketcase company back in the 90s and was on a similar brink with sales crashing, and it also suffered layoffs and rationalization. Unfortunately, does TDC have the equivalent of a Jobs who can be a rallying point to revitalize the ailing company?

@FpCAR7d-1ufh: i like your optimism, though comparing TDC and AAPL is a huge stretch of imagination.

TDC can learn a lot from the 1997 Macworld presentation - when Jobs made a comeback to the then about to collapse Apple Corp.

@https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEHNrqPkefI

At around 9:20 Steve Jobs outlined the 5 point strategic shift that ultimately changed the direction of Apple:

  • Board of Directors: Fired the original board, and brought new blood into the leadership

  • Focus on Relevance: Rationalized the product line and focused on the 2 key markets for Apple: Creative Content and Education

  • Invest in Core Assets: Reinvested in the Apple Brand and the Operating System

  • Meaningful Partnerships: Buried the hatchet with Microsoft and sought funding from Bill Gates

  • New Product Paradigm: Reposition Apple computers to highlight and complement the power apps/software that run on them (then: MS Office, Adobe, etc.)

Although Apple still ended up changing more directions since then (e.g. Safari browser up-ending IE, shutting down Adobe Flash, getting into music players and tablets, etc.) the above 5-point strategy pretty much triggered it all.

Stock is at $23. If done well, this could be the best comeback of the Big Data age.

1) How is it possible that ANY of the management team still has a job after having no clue on how to run the business?

2) How can the same people that brought the bad processes, unresponsive culture, and lack of entrepreneurial fervor be kept in the re-org ... and expected to changed anything for the better?
