I'm hearing rumors they may outsource most if not all of the IT dept. Is that true or just BS? Surely they couldn't outsource everything....wouldn't core groups have to stay?

You nailed it. The brat pack. Put we all know Lane wants to outsource everything. So sucking up may not do you any good with him. We know nothing will be done till there is leadership change in IT.
Devon won't completely outsource it's IT department. They tried that back in 2002-2003 and it was a miserable failure. There will be parts of IT, I am sure will be sent to Ben Williams favorite companies Accenture or PWC, that way he can be assured a job when oil gets to $20/barrel. It's survival, all the directors are doing the same thing. These are unprecedented times in the oil business, so no one knows exactly what will happen, but it maybe time to take a deep breath, sharpen the resume and start looking for your next career outside of oil. There is life outside the Devon ivory tower, so don't wait for the total melt down of oil prices to realize everyone else has left. If you are still at Devon they need you for a specific job, so you probably have mad skills that will transfer to another industry. Or you are bandwagon kiss up that happens to be drinking buddies of the IT director party. (Pretty much anyone in Lane Hales group. ) The people with mad skills should really start looking, there are plenty of Jobs around. The kiss ups will land somewhere like Accenture or PWC with high paying jobs and the cycle of the Peter Principle will continue on.
Accenture awaits! Devon IT employees will be kept long enough to train their cheaper replacements from India.
With the current gas and the stock price, I would not be surprised.
