BP does not have what it takes to be better. It reached design limitations with the Texas City incident but the government was sleeping and allowed the Macondo incident to occur. BP is known for all kinds of tragedies. Clearly stands for Before Pray ...if you entered their kingdom.

ALL companies now have learned that the HB-1 worker is cheaper and easier to manage over the post 50 employee.

This is the unwritten rule of today’s business.

The Beyond People's company has no concerns about it impacts people. I went to the Rodeo Houston event this year and noticed that BP has continued sponsoring the event. Likely using money they did not pay to those layoff. Interesting to see how there is money to advertise but not to meet their commitments on those who worked and generated the cash for them. In contrast, other companies with commodity products are able to meet payroll commitments ahead of advertising.

we should file a class action suit against BP for firing people near retirement. only then talent will not come to work for them.

Just experienced the same treatment soon reaching retirement age and fired by incompetent manager that would turned on the computer, disappeared for hours, and London management believed " we have a great leader". Goes to show - out of sight, out of mind. The severance package was so tiny that a 2 yr employee likely gets the same. Now trying to reestablish the professional competence lost by staying put. Bad decision on my part.

I have been employed a few years in Naperville. I am sorry I left my previous position for the crap at Naperville. The place is nothing but white discrimination. Even after the minority Director of Facilities was walked out the door (fired) because of something, discrimination and harassment still prevail. On average 1 person was walked out the door every 3 to 4 months. It slowed down because of the massive layoffs that occurred last year.

During layoffs the management team stuck together like dried crap sticks to ones a-- if not wiped properly. They are the most DISHONEST management team I ever worked with or for. The engineering manager in my opinion is an ISLAMIST, and when complaining about harassment the upper manage does nothing..except fire the person complaining about the treatment. The present dictatorship is no different.

Yes, they do fire people before they are vested in retirement benefits. One of my colleagues was let go 6 weeks before vesting in retirement. The loss was over $70,000. This shows how dishonest and evil BP is. This was legal robbery.

I continue to look for other work, but because of bills and raising a family I keep working in the cesspool called BP Research Center Naperville. I pray I can get out of here soon.

Low oil prices obviously put a strain on this industry and reducing labor costs (one of the largest operating cost) is one of the resulting responses. I also watched financial projections based on $100 oil become a dream now that we've seen less than $30 oil sustained. As a female and minority (and severed) former employee I observed the opposite. I watched all but one of the few minority (male and female) managers get laid-off in the last year. It's good to know there are people who think female and/or minority employees aren't performing (just because they're female or minority or both). I'll be sure to avoid those people. To everyone else, be encouraged, there is life after BP.

I have worked there, this is pretty spot on about the culture. Other poster is right senior guys were treated well, one month pay for each year served. Many were within a year or two of retirement as it is. And had served 20+years with the company. Do the math on letting those guys go.....

I was a senior leader in BP and received a package in Houston in September. They were very fair for all employees so I would not worry should it come to that for you. The reason Sunbury, Aberdeen and Norway appear favored is nothing to do with BPs British heritage. It's European employment laws which are stricter re. redundancy. On the plus side, the US ops jobs pay significantly more than equivalents in the UK and US ops are always ramped up faster than Europe when an upturn returns.

BP deserves to go to the waste bin. Horrible political correctness pervades the company. A growing feminist culture also is apparent.

There are some good people, but for the most part, they are functionally incompetent. Yes, intelligent people, don't get me wrong. But they are so caught up in the quagmire web of corporate processes, that they are frozen.

Ask their employees, and if they are frank, they will affirm "spot on".

Sure sign of a company that is headed down the tubes,. I predict it will be acquired by another one of the majors.

you are right about the minorities, take a look to the last layoffs in 2015, most of the ones who kept their jobs or got promotions were minorities. Sunbury got also favored over Naperville, but alas BP is a British company no matter what they say, they will always favored the UK jobs and the European refineries and operations over the US ones.
