Thread regarding Arris Group Inc. layoffs

Layoffs coming, you should have been prepped for this

Layoffs are coming, Expect the announcement this week.

Pace acquisition complete, they have made their selections and getting ready to make us 'lean and clean'. Hopefully Obama's economy is ready for the influx of available engineers.

Say goodbye to your bonus this year, maybe the severance will make up for it, best of luck.

you're probably right about the Horsham rationale. I was RIF'd from Horsham and much of the mgmt. are left over from prior acquisitions and so over-paid & under-skilled that the cling to their job knowing they will never get rehired at that level again. but there are exceptions. I know of a very talented mgr who got whacked and the consequences will be felt. meanwhile, many VERY talented worker-bees were sent packing because of stupid incompetent managers. how do THEIR boss' keep their jobs when they are causing so much damage to the company while protecting their inner circle of morons? is the CEO so detached that he doesn't see the obvious any more? the package was fair, though, so I give credit to whomever made that happen.

Seems some people upper management do not understand the logic behind some of these moves. Seems like Horsham rationale.

Sorry to hear, that's unfortunate. Can't believe they are laying off more, thought it was done for this round.

Total in Lowell said to be 28. As said by another, management has made poor decisions, but they are not the ones paying for them. Very sad. Lowell is sure to be gone entirely within 1-2 years.

Another post said ex Pace employees only getting a week per year in severance. Is that the same as legacy Arris?

Around 60 people laid off in Boca today. Maybe 15 developers and a few test remain until early April, which is their termination date. Parts people in customer service are safe for now as well as customer support. Engineering will be over in this building by mid April it seems.

Upper management makes all the mistakes, gets none of the consequences.

Long term outlook is not good, especially in video.

severance package seems to be good, some getting 6 months and some others 1 year (for people with longer years of service).. Many divisions still have full product duplication and many positions are still duplicates. They just started the process of product road-maps . There will be more cuts once product integration is complete . For those redundant work force its better to take a good package now and leave rather than waiting for a worse situation later

I actually feel that the tech job market is in a good position right now to be looking for a job. You have to admit it is much better than it was 5 years ago.

The Suwanee and Horsham IT departments seem to be a big target. Curious how the Finance and Engineering teams will be effected. Guess we will see tomorrow. Good luck!

I'm not blaming Obama for the layoffs, I'm just saying that he was on the news last week saying the job market is doing great. Let's just hope that the job market is good enough for all of us and find new ones.

I love how right wing jackwagons can turn everything into a mention of the people they blame for all of their problems or the perceived problems of the economy/country (the "Obama economy"). The two have nothing to do with each other by the way. But do you ever take responsibility for your own problems? Do you ever not blame someone else for your issues or issues with the economy or whatever? A company is laying people off and it has nothing to do with anything but the business. It's always someone else's fault. I'm sure your invisible friend in the sky will bail you out. Party of no personal accountability.

I'm not sure about India layoffs. If you're talking about about the Bangalore site, you should know that the new CIO is shaking thinks up in a big way. He favors outsouring, cloud solutions, etc. That's a good thing for the company in my opinion. the India employees at Bangalore are in a good spot for the new company, but that is my opinon and I don't have evidence of that yet. The existing IT groups in Suwanee and especially Horsham are fighting, wasteful, and completely disfunctional. It's as bad, if not the worst I've seen in my long career. Instead of positioning themselves as an asset for the business to grow, they have become a bloated and expensive drag that is anchored in the 90's. There are a good number of talented workers, but they are mismanaged, treated poorly, careers and skills neglected by management.

Approximately 50 people could be laid off in Boca on Monday Feb 22. The cardboard boxes have been constructed on Friday Feb 19 and are ready to be handed out to the unlucky ones. 2 weeks per year severance for 5 to 10 years of service is good. Add to that the 2015 annual bonus plus Pace's 12% retention bonus and your vacation payout seems fair. I'm dreading the manic Monday already.....

Correct, this RIF round will be 15-20%. Correct, there will be another one after the Pace integration is done. Incorrect, you WILL get your 2015 bonus paid out. Correct, the Severance package is 2 weeks per year for people with 5-10 years of service, but its not a linear scale for 10+ years. Don't stress. The list is set and nothing you or I can do about it. It's a tough pill but it could be a lot worse.

Not sure where you're getting this information but Boca certainly hasn't been "hit hard" by any means. Not yet at least! :)

Maybe Boca will on Monday, but it certainly hasn't happened yet.

And the 15-20% is only for the "labor" and the "cogs" apparently has another completely different percentage. It won't be across the board because that means literally everyone out of the now 8000ish people (Arris interest in Satellite and International means they're not going anywhere). The 20% was mostly for the engineering teams (possibly sales too).

They have already started. Smaller notifications done earlier this week. Some larger ones today (thursday) and tomorrow (friday) , with the bulk coming Monday and continuing though that week of February 23. Lawrenceville and Boca sites are hit hard. But it'll be 15-20% cut across the board on average on this round, and then a smaller round later in the year.

Ummm this is not true at all. There may have been a few layoffs (and those that aren't engineers) in Boca but saying it's already happening (the big engineering cuts) is just false.

Technically everyone should be worried since they haven't made it clear who's getting axed, but it certainly hasn't happened yet.

At the bare minimum they'll wait until the next project is complete so I'm not sure why yesterday was supposedly the day...

Hopefully things work out for the best for everyone though!

Layoffs have already started in Boca and will continue till closed. Engineering will start layoff on Feb 16, 2016 will be deep and hurt. Arris sr mgt is messing up projects and don't care about the customers. There is magic in Boca that ARRIS will not figure out until almost everyone is gone, then it will be too late to rebuild.

A bunch of layoffs already started in PA, old arris that is and will continue there as well.

This will be a slow painful death, quarter by quarter.

Hard times for everyone coming.

Good luck to everyone.
