WD Headquarters: Moving to Bay Area?

The new president of WD is in San Jose. The profitable part of the hard drive business is in San Jose (HGST). If the SanDisk deal goes through - they're in Silicon Valley. Why would WD "headquarters" stay in Irvine? The center of the company is up there.

Is it the reason the last few All hands meeting hosted by ceo were in hgst location rather than in Irvine?

My vote is that yes, WD will close the office in Irvine once the lease is up in Irvine.

The headquarters will be in San Jose - the employees that stay after the integration have some time to look for new jobs.

-- The most profitable part of the business is the WD business. It currently generates more profit than the HGST business. But, this is expected to change as client diminishes.

-- Yes, HQ will move up north. However, SoCal employees (those that survive all these cuts) will probably not have to move up for at least 3 years or so.

-- The new Great Oaks facility is large enough to hold everyone currently in YB and Irvine.

-- It makes sense for HQ to be up in Silicon Valley anyways. Why have such a big presence in Irvine when the future is with the SV-based businesses?
