Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Three Weeks

We've survived for three weeks since they announced the layoff. It has not been pleasant, but it has given us time to prepare. The cuts will be very very deep. There will be people gone that you don't expect to be gone. Be a team player, get along with people. Missing these qualities you will be out in the first round. The day of reckoning is next. I expect it to be Tuesday. Layoff best practices say always do it on Tuesday. IT cut by 60%, Admin - 60% Project Exec - 100%, Land 35%, Marketing 65%, Data Specialist - 50%. Four out of five supervisors will be gone or reassigned. It is just a few days away. You can make it. If you have been there less than two years you are guaranteed to be on the cut list. If you are over 55 your chances increase by 80%. White Males 2 out of 3 in most cases.

The one sacred cow is the jersey milker that Hager loves on when the farmer isn't around.

Assholes that post these kind of huge paranoid numbers know nothing and don't work for Devon.

30% could easily be slashed by just getting rid of the Chesapeake hand me downs, company was better before we started hiring all those ex-employees. Still love Devon and hope the right people go.

What about HR ? Less employees, less HR needed.

People don't realize how deep this cut is going to be. Less workers require less supervisors require less managers, directors and VPs. The only differences will be the size of the severance packages.

My advice is and always has been the most wise course of action; i.e., get your spirits up, put a smile on your face, then find someone's butt to kiss.

If this is anything like Sandridge, they will cut some of the most valuable people in every area of the company. No one is safe. Sandridge has officially gutted themselves. All they have left is a name.

There are NO sacred cows to quote the head honcho. No such thing as safe so prepare for the worst. The end is likely near.

As a non-white individual, who worked at Devon, I saw the blatant discrimination first hand!

When people on here complain, that it's white males that will get laid off...remember that it was extremely difficult for non- whites to get hired or get promoted at Devon.

Peace to all and good luck, no matter your color. Keep your character and learn and become stronger in failure...all with GOD's help!

There's no way any of this works without cutting VPs

Instead of cutting the front line staff, Devon should cut the overhead - VPs, SVPs, Directors, and so on.

Very unlikely that people there less than 2 years will get cut - in general they are less expensive than their longer term counterparts and this is all a money game.

Don't understand your numbers on Marketing cuts. Staff is already lean and they are downstream all the way. That is: daily activity and existing production has to be sold - not much emphasis on future drilling. They constantly work to optimize prices and make consolidations in contracts as needed. It's the only way to improve net backs in a poor price environment. All Marketing personnel should be kept and given incentives to keep up the good work.

Guys ... there is like 4 rigs in the entire company.... engineers, geologists, and geophys will get absolutely crushed. They are the most expensive in the company by far and Devon doesn't need 160k employees sitting on their a$$ all day. Project execution will not be 100% but will definitely get hit very hard....there is still $30 M of funding for a few projects. IT has way to many managers and supervisors and they should get hit very hard since they create minimal value. See you all in Mexico

Project management will get decimated. Energy marketing cut by 30-40%. IT is already running pretty bare so few cuts there. 40% of supervisors will get cut (those with fewer than 5 direct reports). Several managers in redundant positions will get cut. Very few cuts for engineers.

Either you have no connection with the company or you need to pee in a cup.
