Any evidence that it will be attacked, given what's happened in the US with the whole 4 weeks max cap?

for part of business in UK - have just announced that it there will be going involuntary and it will be statutory redundancy terms only. The days of a nice package are long gone.
@FUJByEe-1vsq is correct, also, yes on going with less than the legal minimum as the full package exceeds the minimum.
When many people are being made redundant at once in a particular business unit, they will be offered the same package. A different business may offer different terms even as part of the same round of redundancies. These may be different again at the next round. So do not assume that the terms at the next round will be as generous as in the past. It is not contractual.
Thanks, that's amazing. I have never heard of a company that does case by case redundancy in the UK. Mostly there is an all employee minimum of X weeks per year, and very occasionally someone might get enhanced terms based on luck and who knows what!
There are no contractual redundancy terms. They are decided on a case by case basis and enshrined in confidentiality. There are legal minimums that the company must offer. These are described on various government websites. IBM does sometimes appear to offer less than the legal minimum in some areas, but this appears to be allowed because other aspects of the package take it over the legal minimum.
One would not be surprised if they are less generous as time goes by, but I have no hard evidence for this.
