2016 Staffing FAQ-mentions in here that you can suggest that you be severed from the company. Is this really acceptable to do or would you just be shooting yourself in the foot from any possible severence package?

My boss CLAIMS the list would never get out and it would not be held against you
In essence this would volunteering to be let go, you would get the severance package. However there is no guarantee the company will accept you request.
