Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Earnings call nugget. What do you think?

Ken Meyer (EVP):

"Also, one of the things perhaps not fully appreciated is that the 365 stores are going to leapfrog ahead on many of the practices that we will be evolving in Whole Foods Market . We can put them in. There's no culture. There's no legacy there to overcome. So we can go radical on 365 stores."

Culture. Why we all stayed. Why we all need to leave.

"Leapfrog", what a f-cking douchebag Ken Meyer is. He's one of the many, many incompetent losers that got this corporation into the mess that it's currently in. He should be fired immediately, with extreme prejudice. #wholefoodsmarket

Sprouts, Publix, Trader Joes, Wegman's, Costco etc are the place to be NOT because they're perfect but because they are run like BUSINESSES and if you don't know how to run a business you can't possibly offer any employees any kind of future. They don't have this insane cult of personality surrounding a has-been and his buddies who don't understand the industry and who still believe that a bunch of regional losers who were in the right place at the right time deserve their titles (and all that excessive pay). Something is wrong here and has been for a long time, and it's not changing. The ship is still sinking and the crisis team can't change the numbers nor can they fix the mismanagement.

I love trader joes. I carried a trader joes cloth bag and the astl made fun of me. I told her we no longer sell cloth bags so what am I to do? She shut up.

I don't get why everyone loves trader joes. It's alright if you want stoner food and bad quality produce or you love off frozen foods. Not defending WFM, but trader joes is a shit show when I go in and always messy.

This "legacy" quote wasn't the only one by Mackey. Look at the transcript online - there are no quotes attributed to him and he spoke throughout the call. Unless Ken or David or Jason were introduced or introduced themselves when they spoke, almost all of those comments were by JM.

I read it online. If it was mackey that's real horrible.

Did anyone else actually listen to the call? I swear it was Mackey who made the above quote not Meyer.

Lucky's. Organic for the 99%, jobs for the 1.6%.

My new city doesn't have a WFM but we are getting a Lucky's in the next couple of months. "Organic for the 99%" is their slogan. Look forward to shopping there. Soon we will also get a Trader Joe's which EVERYONE loves. Meanwhile we have Publix Greenwise which is excellent and a Fresh Market that has great prep foods. I'm not missing WFM... A conventional banana is a conventional banana. An an organic banana is an organic banana. I can get Fage and Chobani yogurt as well as the store brands which are great. I save more money shopping elsewhere without my employee discount than I ever did with it. I don't need a tattoo however.

NE Region....Trader Joe's is ROCKIN it here. Since my job was eliminated I have been shopping there and the lines are out the door! Great VALUES. WFM "execs" u really know how to ruin a good thing. You eliminated the jobs that made WFM different and successful. It's about people and connections with customers but you seemed to forget that. 365 Stores will not save you. It's too late......back to the commune Johnny. You have lost your way.

It feels like they want to start over, cut their losses from the "Mothership". Tattoo Parlors in grocery stores, great idea! 😳

Exactly- just like the clinics- no pre-testing- just lots of hurry up and get them in only to close them all- there was even talk of a Spa hotel in Austin for immersion to the public- someone got it right- 365 is a diversion because they can't fix the WFM issues so lets start a "whole" company around what we think will fix everything- clueless!! Ken Meyer and Dave Lannon should be drawn and quartered. Even though AC didn't speak- he was the voice of reality!!

Dead on! It's not going to be long before this radical culture permeates WFM. We can already see traces of this! 'Values matter' .....what a joke!

The bottom line is that the company is barely able to figure out how to fix the myriad issues with its CURRENT business. So why would they invent a new one out of the blue and even predict its expansion with NO proof of concept first, nor any reason to believe they could effectively run whatever it is they are planning to create. Furthermore, they've eliminated the very people who could make a new venture successful while retaining the morons at the top in the regional echelons. With Kroger or private equity about to make a move on Fresh Market, it's clear that the smart money is on the competition, and not on us. Another rude awakening is coming because these managerial and executive idiots refuse to recognize that THEY ARE THE PROBLEM.

The 365 stores is nothing but a desperate measure by the company to salvage the WFM symbol on Wall Street. To date, help me with this, there is NO strategic path whatsoever for 365. They are simply clueless for what they propose in a category that's dominated by Aldi, Trader Joes, Walmart Neighborhoods and more? Not forgetting cannibalizing your WFM stores. Your thoughts?
