The individual came from outside the company - several VP's were promoted to Exec VP's. Help me understand this - we are bleeding money and laying people off and boys at the top are playing games.

Ka-boooom! (carpet bomb). Finally some conjecture I agree with. I hate to see it, but my crystal ball says @1cvx is dead on with this speculation. Stover, the new SVP is the hatchet man.
No secret; that's the way major layoffs and re-orgs happen. He just retired from Marathon in November after 30 years. what do you suppose brings him out of retirement 3 months later, boredom? Check out his LI profile.
Mike Stover is new SVP of technology services.Think he has Project execution, Mike Seimers team and a few other teams under him......I think this guy is going to call in an air strike and wipe teams below him.
