I know the majority of employees would rather just know and move on with their lives...gives us the "compensation" package and let us move on with some dignity already. Tell us everyone is being evaluated...we aren't dumb...we know decisions have already been made. Let us move on....

My guess is that they told us something was going to happen because rumors were going to get out either way.
What I hear is that they are making a concerted effort to ensure nobody gets lost in the shuffle. For example, if dept A is letting go of 10 people but department B could hire one of them, they want to know that before making the announcement.
Quit crying. We are dealing with the same thing at Devon.
Noble Energy did the same thing - took 3 months from announcement to layoff date. NO work got done in any of the offices. I feel for y'all... Good luck. By the way - if you aren't on the list and actually do find a new job there is a good chance they will make a counter.
I would much rather have time to prepare for a layoff than get no warning at all. I can apply for jobs now and if not let go, then tell the other company no thanks.
Original post could not be more true. Just make the announcements and let's move on. Has to be before the townhall... Or that will be a disaster.
why would you apply for another job if you are not getting let go? There is nothing unbelievable about the comment or the feelings of the employees...the fact you think people would apply for any job when they don't even know if they are staying or going is in fact unbelievable.
Why? It is much better that way so you have time to apply and look for other job while still getting paid... Unbelievable!
