Over 50, with HP for 20 years, laid off in July 2015. I had wanted to leave for the past 7 years, but now, I'm glad that HP forced my hand. I worked hard over the years to always learn new and marketable skills, and earn two Masters Degrees (one paid-for by HP, BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA). It all paid off. After 2 months of unemployment, I took a new position with an exceptional company. Did that for 4 months, until an even better offer came in from the US Government.
Short story: very happy, learning new things every day, working with smart people, none of whom fear a layoff or any other managerial insanity. Any change is difficult, but if they hadn't laid me off, I'd still be miserable every day, working for the idiots at HPE. Here, my teammates actually VALUE MY EXPERIENCE, and don't view me as an expensive liability.
HP used to be good. Hurd is an idiot, as is Fiorina. But, Whitman is the worst. I congratulate her and her "yes ma'am" executives for single-handedly destroying what was once a great company, doing great things.
AND, I get to telework now, which is something that HP tried very hard to take away from me toward the end. I don't have the words to describe the idiots at HP, and my disgust for them, but I am VERY happy to be GONE!
