Thread regarding FMC Technologies Inc. layoffs

Valuing People?

The FMC Core Values are a joke. Valuing People? The company places absolutely no value on its employees or their skill sets. Integrity? That is a joke.

Gremp and his cronies are loading up on FMC stock while it's cheap, then causing thousands of hard working people to lose their livelihoods in order to drive the value up so they can sell and then bail.

Of course, selling or merging the company will get them there that much quicker. 5 or 6 greedy millionaires are destroying the lives of thousands. This is classic American Corporate behavior.

I too was working in the 80's. The difference is in the way companies then treated their employees back then vs. now. The problem now is that FMC is treating their employees like garbage. They lie to them over and over, and then take people who have devoted their entire lives to the company, eliminate their jobs, and have security walk them out the door. That's the issue, not the fact that layoffs are necessary.

This layoff has been a long time coming for FMC.. The company has held off a long time for cuts in its subsea division... No one is mentioning the fact the the industry is being flooded with oil that's not needed and the market became flooded and it's driving prices by the barrel down to near record lows. The stock prices of all oil and gas companies are plummeting and all of them across the board are facing layoffs. They are projecting oil prices per barrel to go down to 10 dollars. With no contracts coming in what is FMC supposed to do keep people with no work to do? They held off as long as they could and most of today's mindset for the common employee isn't focused on thier job or pride in their work, all they care about is a paycheck so believe it or not the company is what you put into it and not what you can get out of it..

Wow, I can see the youth in this feed, these folks should have lived through the 80's I was laid off 4 times in 4 years. I didn't blame anyone it's simple business economics. We didn't all get our participation trophies, we had to take jobs where ever we could get them. I was a Cemetery caretaker and grave digger in 1982 a far cry from the high end Fitter welder I had been up until then.

It's a cyclical industry and one must adjust or get a job in the school system or other government occupation.

Bottom line is only YOU are responsible for you and your family's welfare.

This is not FMC only, pretty much all the companies are doing something similar. You know those guys not only got to keep their job but they also got to keep their bonus (they probably sacrificed you to do so). Sorry, you sound disgruntled, But I'm not disagreeing with what you are saying. This whole thing is about greed.
