Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

The scale on 2-11 D-day.

Months ago when I heard people said it would be 2-11 and it became exactly true. Anyone heard of the scale? I heard it will be greater then 1/2 and it's in WD, not HGST.

One VP and at least two Senior Directors were let go earlier this week. Director and Manager level is up next. Expect all of this to be over by end of April.

Different groups have different quotas for cuts. Anywhere from 15% to 50%. Fasten your seatbelt.

Someone told me 2/11 will start with top tier staffs only. Normal engineers layoff will defer to March/April time frame.

Well, if you attended the town hall earlier in the week, you would know that layoffs are coming. N-3 next week, and then the rest of the organization by end of April. Layoffs on both the WD and HGST sides coming.

I've been hearing rumors that it will be mostly WD. The HGST side makes all the Enterprise drives which there still is a demand for. Laptop and Desktop demand seems to be dying thanks to SSD.

From Milligan's conference call with investors, he says the merger will save 400 million in OpEx a year and most of that will come from SE Asia but 10% from US.

I think Irvine & Thailand might bear the brunt. Maybe Fremont depending on PC sales.

Don't worry. Everyone will have a new future. HDD is dying...

Not sure the exact date but it will be some time between now and April first. Need to get everyone off the books before the end of the fiscal calendar year.
