Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

Combination of "Unlimited Vacation Policy" and sweatshop mentality of new CEO will be toxic.

The "Unlimited Vacation Policy" is the latest dirty trick that the Corporatr America has come up with. This is going to work well with the Asian-style sweatshop mentality that the new CEO has.

The advantage of the "Unlimited Vacation Policy" for the corporation is:

1- Erases the financial liability in their books for "unused vacations".

2- When they lay you off, they wouldn't pay you anything for your otherwise "unused vacations"

3- employees get less vacation time in practice because they can only take it when they are "done with their assignments" which is totally subjective and may never happen. Moreover employees feel that they have been given a favor when they take it.

4- Employees worry that if they take vacations, they would get a lower performance review grade compared to the ones that do not request vacation and keep working. This would deter them from asking for it.

5- Manager's cronies get more vacation than others and there is no mechanism to regulate it. This will be the cream on top of the highly political workplace that BRCM already has.

6- It works as a good propaganda statement to say we have "Unlimited Vacation Policy" when they try to recruit.

Unlimited vacation came via Terri Timberman. She was the master of taking away benefits legally. She worked there for 5 years and walked away with over 10 million in stock. Where else does an HR person get this type of money. She took the money and retired. I hope she gets what's coming to her. Total dirtbag.

One of the very few policies the combined company takes from legacy Broadcom is unlimited vacation (US only) for the reasons stated before. No it is just not 1 year but it is forever.

That could happen if engineers had a union. Unfortunately our profession has been reduced to this point.

They are only honoring it for a year and then it goes back to the old, regular accrual program. So you can't hold Avago accountable for this one
