Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Ruthless tactics and absence of Integrity

Yesterday, management let go of one of the BEST employees in our field office. Honest and loyal to his core. They let him go for transferring personal data off of his computer. Not only did HR fire him over the phone instead of manning up and coming to face him, but they attempted to make him sign paperwork accusing him of taking files that he didn't touch.

Lets be honest.... the DAY they announced layoffs... we all did that. We all packed up some personal items and we ALL moved/emailed/'uploaded to the cloud' personal documents from our computers. When you live in your office 40 or more hours a week... you accumulate personal items. WHEN they company gives vague limits as to when the ax is coming down, you make sure to get your documents ASAP.

The issue is that his management gave this employee NO DUE PROCESS. They didn't start an investigation, they didn't follow protocol (they simply accused and then fired), they framed him to cut G&A costs. THEN... a mere hour later... they handed bonus letters out to the remaining employees. THAT is the environment that we are working in during these rough times.

Stay strong and take care of your coworkers fellow Devonians.

Devon not only owns the computers, but has invested millions of dollars to obtain data to gain competitive advantage over other E&Ps. Damn right they should protect that data and anyone who violates those rules should consider themselves lucky to only lose their jobs and not be prosecuted for intellectual theft! Could you imagine if Devon employees used their personal computers to store this data where the IT department couldn't monitor it's whereabouts? Of course it's not like Devon's data is the nation's most sensitive information that could compromise the lives of it's employees stationed around the globe! Now that would be worthy of prosecution!

If you have any questions about what you can take ask your supervisor to clear it with security. I did and was able to take the things I needed. (all personal no business) Not doing so is just plan stupid. Our IT department can see every bit of data that leaves our computers. The are watching and safe guarding company data to make sure people do not leave with information that is proprietary. Do i think they fired this employee for personal data. No! I think he was pulling his information and maybe sent out something that was in some documents he was in a hurry to transfer. Accident or intentional he broke the rules that everyone had been informed. Everyone is very aware that that is grounds for termination. He lost the bonus because he broke the rules and possibly the law. Management could careless about keeping his bonus. his thousands will not make a pin prick in the millions they are looking to cut in G&A. This guys was not let go because he had a target on his forehead. He was let go because he was stupid. Do yourself a favor and follow the rules and if there are any questions about what you can leave with ask your supervisor. Use email to get it in writing.

Bullshit indeed. Singled one person out then gave everyone bonuses? Get real people. IT knows exactly what goes out. If it's questionable, it goes through legal. If it's confirmed to be sensitive company information, you're out and better hope you don't get sued. Don't be stupid and there's nothing to worry about.

Similar situation happened to co-worker in 2008. Took home personal info that Devon said was company property. They ended up settling for future wages in wrongful termination. Devon is dirty in times like these.

I'm calling bullshit, he must have been downloading information that he was not allowed to take with him if he thought he was on the list to be let go. What an incredibly stupid move on his part, lost his bonus & maybe his severance if he was on the list. Company computers are not personal computers, if you use them for personal use you are not very intelligent as the company has full access to everything you put on them & every site you visited can be tracked. Be smart & keep your job!!

Devon is not running a social program subsidized by Obama bucks! Of course they care about money. The only goal

Of Devon and any other public ally traded company is to provide value for the shareholders. Democrats are fuxking ruining this country and have put everyone is the position we are in now. Dips hits
