Thread regarding VMware Inc. layoffs

Well, there goes VMWare

As a longtime client, it's with supreme sadness I've read post of their acquisitions.

Why?

Because of so many other products and services that Dell has purchased over the years, then turning them into shit in less than two years.

Postini

Equallogic

Sonicwall

Every one of these were customer favorites, inspiring rave reviews and killer marketshare (Postini at one point was 90% of the legal market). Every one got dumped like rats off a sinking ship once Dell laid it's festering mitts on them.

Such a sad, sad day....

Dell would be REALLY REALLY stupid to interfere with the independence of VMware - I hope they're NOT stupid.

The relationship between VMware and EMC (also Dell now) is like the one between the old Soviets and Poland. AS LONG AS Poland did not misbehave, Poland was an independent country.

But don't believe that Poland was ever independent from the Soviets then!

You forgot about Force-10. Formerly good 10Gbe switches are now crappy Dell Powerconnect offerings.

Independent??

VMware hasn't been independent ever since EMC came into their picture and got the cofounders removed. Thx Mr. Tucci.

So sorry for the fine engineers who are getting axed (or embarking on new opportunities, to look on the bright side). I have used VMware products since version 1.0 and absolutely love them. Thanks for the fantastic tools.

"Dell aren't buying VMware - they're buying EMC. Yes they will gain voting rights over VMware, but they're not buying VMware."

97% ownership is full ownership in any legal sense. VMware is a division of EMC today, will be a division of Dell (if the deal even goes through now with the major disruption to cost basis of shares of EMC and VMW).

Novell was a good company too, commanding almost 90% market share of network operating systems in the early to mid 90's.

Ironically, the low share prices of both VMW and EMC may make the whole deal impossible to fund

May be it's about the time... A2 aka Amazon and Azure; and with Azure stack coming out, it seems a long dark tunnel!

Vmware is a good company and this will not happen. They need to take such measures. If we had a company of our own,we would have done the same.

Wasn't it made pretty clear that VMware will remain independent despite EMC's merger with Dell?

It doesn't change the fact that VMW stock being affected is immensely disruptive, but this kind of doomsaying isn't really making any sense to me.
