Thread regarding Accenture Ltd. layoffs

Need an advice: Please lay me off...

I've been thinking of leaving Accenture for what I perceive as greener pastures. Green being a better work life balance and back doing some kind of development work.

To explain the situation: I've been on my project with various companies over the past 2 years, Accenture came in and picked me up about a year ago when said companies left. This year with ACN has been a serious roller coaster. Before joining, I performed development tasks and enjoyed my job. Once I joined ACN I was the person managing a large team of developers as a PM. Hours are split between India and PST so the work never really stops. I've learned a lot having pushed myself but I'm ready for a change. Working long hours to prove my worth at 30 something is not my ideal job situation.

Which brings me to my question: looking at exit options/strat and focusing on getting laid off for unemployment. The plan is to give options for my eventual roll off. If we can strike a deal, I would put off leaving by a month or two instead of giving my two weeks. My programs would need significant ramp up time which is the leverage I'm working with. My manager is a good man but in the end, he's putting himself and the company first.

Anyone else have been in this situation? Any recommendations?

PS: Feeling burnt on the consulting life so changing projects is not on my mind. I've also asked to be put back into a development position but have been getting the run around.

I've worked for many companies - consulting and non. Accenture has been the worst...worst in leadership, process, ethics, growing, fostering, and keeping talent...worst. I left along w/a few of my colleagues from the outside that had come in and never looked back. I would also try non consulting as I found that there is more long term skin in the game. Consulting firms are primarily run by sales with only the billable hours model which creates all kinds of internal conflicts of interest in investing in the best people. It's all about now...the commission of your boss and nothing else matters. I also greatly question their ethics a company and am embarrassed of my choice. Many mentors were disappointed when I made that choice and it turns out they were right. If you are still at Accenture, plan on leaving as the longer you stay, the longer you prevent real growth. Though Accenture has a self serve model for your own development, it's pretty bad.

This is true for internal employees as well. All you need to do is start talking about and standing firm on the kind of roles where you think you can grow and add value which no matter what HR may say, is just not the way the MD's that have been there since the beginning of time work. They have made their millions on the back us where it feels like you are in prison. I have been here 10 years and it never gets any better no matter which role you take or which MD you work for-there may be anomalies but I have not met them yet and the leadership as you know is absolutely terrible. It's all about the MD, their ego, their rise, their money, and so on and they could care less about you. the plan mentioned in the other post is perfect. Best of luck to you.

You have a few options here, I would ask to be rolled off from the project, just say it does not fit what you want to do, your growth trajectory, etc. You know the drill, that will piss them off and they will let you go from the project...

It may take a while but they will let you go...

Once you are on the bench, back in the office, keep refusing new opportunities... Repeat the same spiel, just say it does not fit what you want to do, etc. Come up with some kind of a requirement that will make them impossible to meet it. OK, now you are cooking...

After two rejected roles, everyone will be pissed but they will want to follow the book - so, your career counselor will preach a bit, the HR lady will be pissy, but you stick to your plan...

OK, now you are sitting at home for about 5, 6 weeks, if lucky even more, they pay you and you do are on your XBOX or something like that - cheers, good times. At some point you'll get a random meeting invite, on Friday with a partner, they will summon you and you will be axed - low demand, etc... It's quick and it does not hurt. OK, now you can smile. You are out and you are eligible for unemployment. They will not fight it, they could give a f--- about challenging unemployment claims, they make the whole thing up in a snap on some poor H1B soul that toils 80 chargeable hours a week and is getting paid 5% of what he brings to ACN.
