People who accepted a package left at end of December, then a round of layoffs in sales reps, globals, corporate engineering and field staff added another 2500 or so to the total. Another package was offered with lower age limit to get more folks out the door. Consensus is that it is over for now but real bloodbath will happen post merger. So far management level has been, but afterwards the consolidation and reorg will shrink that group quite a lot. Many layers have been added over time. Right now, everyone is trying to show their value to field to keep a desk in future. Sad ending to a fine company.

Been with company for very long time but not same now. They treat people like crap. by far worse job ever. they been taking all jobs we can move to away from us and outsource to India. now we can longer move unless out of the door.. they want push the older people out because we have more benefits.
believe will be a lot changes once Dell steps in..
I work at EMC and most of the people I work with are waaaay too optimistic about their job survival. All the people who work in EMC qualifying hardware, disk drives, motherboards, etc. will be let go because they can be replaced by Dell hardware.

It's most unfortunate that the people who helped build this company are leaving and asked to go , while who came later and were smarter on deskjobs , are still waiting for merger and after effects. Sad end to a good story and company..
