my observations – i was on a contract at avid and i did not like it. there are some old-timers over there and they may see things a bit differently but my experience over there was so negative i’d rather go work in starbucks than take a contract role with avid…
anyhow, if you are a female you will not feel good over there – the executive line-up is all male, white dominated with some asians to mix things up a bit.
there is some nepotism and a lot of butt kissing over there – it’s funny but sad at the same time. the execs are focused on financials and they need money so they are all about investors, etc. so, on the outside (the investor bait) all is cool, glitzy, nice, clean and polished but inside all of that is rotten to the core and people are unhappy about the company – if you do not believe me go to glassdoor dot com and see the reviews – it’s dismal and people hate it.
do not try to have ideas, do not try to leave your box, stay inside and shut the f--- up – do exactly as you are told and accept your destiny.
people will verbally abuse you, you will witness yelling, tantrums, all kinds of professionally unacceptable behavior – any company that has anything to do with media and entertainment has this to some degree but avid is close to the top of my list (and i’ve see my fair share of m&e companies)
it’s my understanding that you are going through job cuts today as it was reported in twitter feeds – if so, it’s not the first time so you are experienced. hang in there and get out of there asap just as i did, it was a change that helped me regain my sanity after all craziness i witnessed at avid. peace out.
