IBM Layoffs 2016 - Predictions

On 2016 Layoffs (it's an annual thing now and nobody should be surprised) - if you are not in a group that has something to do with #Cloud initiatives you should be ready to depart. I am not saying everyone will be cut, far from that, I am just saying that your job is not safe whatsoever.

We have reached an inflection point in the tech cycle and Cloud will continue to drive growth, this applies to services, HW, SW, R&D, whatever - it's the fact and if you look at openings we have here in the States most of jobs are on that side. I think this strategy has been playing out for a while now but things are accelerating across the industry and you will see all the major player cut jobs in 2016 as it relates to legacy skills while beefing up cloud skills.

Ginny Rommety, the CEO, needs to preserve her $20 Million dollar salary and her golden parachute. That's why she is throwing everyone under the bus. People who have worked for IBM, for decades, are being let go, with one month of severance pay and benefits. This is appalling and totally unacceptable. Ginny is interested in pursuing development of artificial intelligence solutions. It seems to me that too much of her intelligence is already artificial.

I can understand IBM changing direction. What I cannot understand is "why throw everyone under the bus". These were hard working men and woman that would never say anything bad about the company (we were family). Then, along came a CEO that changed everything and we all know how this story ends.

My husband and I have absolutely nothing good to say about IBM. And believe me read anything I can about what is happening. IBM is it's own worst enemy !!!! As one told me " working for IBM should come with the Surgeon Generals Warning" hazardous to your health.

Layoffs have been happening for many years, has nothing to with skills. The whole deal of layoffs are just about numbers. RA package 2016 is the worst offer seen for those effected. Management has no desire to promote ,help, or encourage employees to retool or place on projects. Some of legacy skills still needed to build apps. Lower management does not change practice, just the number of employees.
