Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

It sucks but not the end of the world

I was laid off a little over a year ago from a small E&P, and it sucks. That being said, a year later, I have my own company and I am making a small profit. There are opportunities out there for oil and gas people, even in this market. You have to be willing to work hard, be creative and to network like a mad man, but you can it.

The last year has been very hard, but I have learned so much about the business, and when things turn around, I will be in a place to rake in the cash!!!

I can confirm what he says. I was out of work for four months during mid 2015, but kept calling and contacting people. Many rejections but finally landed a full time job and also had a few other contract type work in the pipeline. All but one in O and 'G.

Well if I could hire you, right now the pay is nothing and there are no benefits. Go out on your own, use your skills, and network like crazy. It's scary as hell, but no one in the industry is hiring, you have to be creative. I do consulting 3 days a week and I have 2 other jobs. No one is going to hand anything to you.
