Thread regarding VMware Inc. layoffs

Getting a few things off my chest

I read an article in the fall that alleged VMware's management had been juicing reported software growth for a year by quietly allocating SaaS to the license category. There's nothing wrong with the accounting, they just didn't tell investors about the change. Looking back, I realize this place has been falling apart for quite some time. This is the 3rd layoff in 4 years since Pat and Jonathan took over executive leadership. At what point will Carl be held responsible for not making the numbers again? We're paying with our jobs for their ineffective leadership.

Death of a thousand cuts is just starting.

This reporting change also changed the comp and quota of the teams on that vertical.

We were handcuffed to do anything but take on a number that we could not achieve against by accounting reclassifying the data, therefore our former method of tracking and attaining was gone.....then management turns asking... Why are you not delivering?

We were very perplexed as they had asked us to stop reporting these numbers as we had in historical reporting measures.....then they threw most of us out in the rif and sent the vertical into the chipper.

But the growth numbers looked better in the rewrite to the accounting dept and to the street.

No. Dane Smith sued the company as a whistleblower because Carl & team were overcharging the federal government on software purchases. All that was from 2011 and before. I think VMware settled last year by paying the government $75m and promising not to do it again. Carl got 3 promotions after the lawsuit was initially filed. It's telling that this company rewards unethical behavior. I always laugh when I see Betsy's EPIC presentation.
