Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Here's how it transpires

Your supervisor is going to call you into a conference room. There will be HR present, and probably security. What they say is well rehearsed and they are very careful not to say something that is not 100% legal and correct. They will state that there is a reduction in headcount, and your employment is no longer required. They will state that it is not a reflection of your performance, but a reduction in headcount. They will lay out what they are offering, typically 30 days of salary and benefits. They will again reinforce that it is not your performance, but a reduction in headcount. You will be asked to sign paperwork which says you understand and accept the terms of the separation. You will be told you will be eligible for rehire when and if the industry recovers and your services are needed. They will ask for your phone and pass. You will be then be escorted to your desk where you can pack your personal belongings, watched closely by security. You will then be escorted to your vehicle and watched as you leave the premises. Your email and network access is cut immediately, and you will not be given opportunity to log in to recover any archived data. At the end of your separation period, understand they will be looking for any reason to sever all ties with you, so one misstep and they will not hesitate to completely sever all liability.

Don't believe the crap, you aren't Devon hands. Devon is a company that respects and values each and every employee and has and will continue to display the company values. I am extremely proud to work or maybe have worked for Devon Energy. If you happen to go you will be paid 60 days with insurance benefits plus a minimum of 30 days after that at full pay, and that is for an employee that hired on last month. The ones that have been around will receive substantially more, up to 52 months at full pay plus the 60 days with benefits. All the employees know this so it is easy to tell 90% of these posts are BS. Devon is such a generous company they are going above and beyound what is legally required, so they trying their best to do right by the ones that have to leave. It is just a fact of supply and demand as is oil and gas price. We at Devon support our coworkers even in the worst of circumstances. To the few real Devon employee posts " Goodluck and Godspeed" I know you will continue to be successful if you leave Devon, because our company full of quality people that already had the the Devon values when they walked in the door and we will continue to live these regardless of our employment status. To all the idiots that post the BS, we know you aren't Devon employees because none of us would waste our time posting such untrue BULLSHIT!!!!!!

I do not think there is any negotiating with the severance offer. Take it or leave it, they are not going to go back and re type or consider giving you more. Just be happy you got a few crumbs.

To get your contacts from Outlook just turn your computer upside down and shake it

Majority of people are so stressed they accept and sign whatever is placed in front of them. Don't be intimidated! Negotiate a better severance. Every penny you get is money for you!!!!

What many people don't accept is that when you are laid off the company wants you gone , as in good bye, get the fukk out. While you may think you are still part of the team, in reality they are looking for any reason to f--- you out of whatever they can.

All of that is true. If you think you may be on the list, it's advisable to copy your contact list as you won't be allowed access to the network ever again. I would suggest that you look up and print copies of the company policies concerning benefits, etc so you have them, as it's difficult when you find yourself on the outside. I would also forward any important emails etc that you want to your personal account. Look up and print hard copies of training transcripts, performance evaluations, or important information that would not be easily available if you can't get into the databases.
