Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

We are told in a town hall and then hear nothing from the leaders in our department

I am not happy but understand why. It just sounds like we are going to be treated like cows going to slaughter. We are told in a town hall and then hear nothing from the leaders in our department. We are told to take care for each other, but we are abandoned by them. There was nothing said by management in ESS. We where just left hanging thinking the worst. So I am guessing I am on the list. How does this illustrate integrity? Here is some straight talk for you DH, you're an idiot!! I hope your life is full of misery. Life for use will go on. I just know in the last 2 years Devon has changed. It is an evil evil company full of white males telling themselves how wonderful they are. I have a special needs child, who is going to them them that daddy lost his job and can't pay for their special care any longer. I need my job but i know you don't care. Maybe one day you'll feel bad.

Oh please- oil & gas have been making billions for years! I suggest the ceo's & vp's are take major cuts first & the little people could still keep their jobs... Or Sell the white ivory tower, we don't need a fancy building to do our work

Sadly, it's not their responsibility or obligation to care for your children. That's your responsibility. Theirs is to run a company that makes money, and at $30 oil, it is basically impossible. They've hung on for an extra year, and well past when others laid off. Don't take things so personally. Oil and gas has always been up and down. We all know the risks. They're giving severance pay for several months. Blame Obama for the crash below $30. Blessed Iran "peace" deal.

In business, this situation is often called "AFI" or awaiting further instructions. Obviously the lower level team leaders were sworn to silence from senior managers. When companies try to muffle the noise and nervous anxiety in this manner, it most often means that the news—when it is finally delivered—will be worse than expected, possibly up to a full 25% reduction in force.
