"Looks much more plausible today, yes?"

Why would it be? Serious, non-sarcastic question. Wishful thinking won't help if/when the hatchet chops a neck.

Yes 99.9% chances. The core Citrix will be acquired by Microsoft after Goto spin off. Netscaler, App delivery platform and device management will add significant value to Microsoft portfolio.

Most likely not. Citrix numbers were bloated last year and the numbers they reported are inaccurate. Citrix states that they will be refocussing on their core products which will put them even further behind their competition. Once the spinoff is final in Q3, it will be interesting to see what happens to both companies. Either way, if I was an employee, I would be freshening up my resume and start looking now.

Microsoft isn't interested in the ancient Citrix technology (most of which will be obsolete soon). Once folks fully migrate away from legacy platforms that don't extend into the cloud, Citrix is doomed. Microsoft already offers the same products and complements them with a host of additional software that has the same functionality (Yammer > Podio, Skype > G2M, Office 365 > Citrix has no equal, Azure, etc) Citrix only offers ways to access the Microsoft stack from remote locations which will become more and more cloud available as time moves forward. Those that need XenApp or XenDesktop to get to their apps will have to pay the high price to mange those environments which in the end will justify the cost for companies to upgrade to cloud based solutions. There is nothing innovative or new at Citrix...it will die on the vine...

People do realise if this happens it not a good thing for citrix employees right unless you are one of the top line execs. It will probably be good for customers too as it would consolidate vendors and make decisions easier if you are a MS shop. For employees its likely a lot of jobs would be cut and offshored at a faster acceleration than what is currently happening. MS do hire a lot of contractors so there may be some citrix contract roles, they tend to have a smaller % of perm employees than most companies. Personally I can't see it happening, in terms of citrix revenue MS would have to pay to acquire and it would take about 8 years just to break even.. 8 years when the core products are already legacy is a very long time and without any new innovations there is just no long term value. This is echoed by Elliot who are using citrix to make as much out of them as they can in the short term.

Most definitely. Trimmed down, sold off, and moved to the West Coast. Better polish up the resumes now!
