I just got laid off yesterday (11/17/2015). Layoffs are already happening. Was told it was realignment and lack of business in the region. Severance nice, but very bad taste on laying off during the holiday season. Q1 would have been easier I think. You can still apply and get hired back to another team if desired.

Layoffs are indeed expected in any acquisitions or realignments. I am sure there will be more, but might be in smaller chunks
They also want you to believe there will be no cuts as they want to dictate the terms on who is leaving and when. If people were to believe there will be cuts the best will leave on their own as they are very much marketable.
Interesting ...... Dell said VMware is jewel crown and business as usual. Other than Virtualstream spin off, it shouldn't have much changes... , no ? Didn't see any layoffs in the news either.
