Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Devon making discrete cuts.

Look out everyone! Devon HR is firing people without performance issues, without write-ups, and without any kind of due process. All in the name of cutting G&A. Basically, this means that management has been given free reign to remake their teams with all of the "Yes-men" they can find and cut out the independent thinkers. If you want to have a long career at Devon you better drink the Kool-aid and buy into the family company tag line. There is a reason that the fastest movers in the company have very little to no outside experience. Devon wants to promote up the interns or lifers who won't question management, while they are paid below market value for their work. For example, Dan Johnson promoted Paul Barbour to supervisor of the supply chain market intelligence group without opening the position up to anyone. Paul has less than 1 year of oil and gas experience and less than 4 years out of college, but he will never question Dan.

The "realignment" was not based on performance but supervisors were given an option of eliminating employees that they didn't particularly care for, even if they were solid performers.

A horrible way for a company to treat employees. There should be a WARN act. It is unfair to all & really hurts morale to constantly leave people in fear of elimination of their jobs.

Who doesn't want a Caddy for a Wal-mart price? I do. However, when dealing with IT talent - there is a HUGE difference between someone who is in IT and someone who knows what the f*** they're doing with computers. Companies should learn that once you hire a top talent, keeping them is critical to your success so you should work like hell to keep them. They'll outperform 3-6 mediocre IT people and not even break a sweat.

One of the IT people that supported my group was let go in April. They gave that person's responsibilities to someone that was minimally adequate and never responded to emai, now he has quit due to "overwork" and they are hiring someone else. We requested that they rehire our original support person but IT management ignored us. IT management doesn't seem to care if our applications are supported or not. I once heard a story from IT about how they wanted to provide Cadillac level support but not at Cadillac level prices. They'd rather be in the Walmart price range - well it seems they have completely reversed that plan now and they provide Walmart level support at Cadillac prices.

Who has DVN let go that was actually worth keeping? I see you mentioning Land... as some one in the group that busts ass, I was pleased to see recent moves.

More layoffs this week -10 to 20. Any idea from which department?

Are they done after this week? Would be cruel to let anyone go next week.

CHK at least had some class and did it with a process. This is a low class and probably illegal with no WARN notice.

Wow, sounds like DVN has gone the way of CHK, nothing but douche ass kissers and GD cunts running around and being promoted into unqualified positions while they run off the talented people who actually know what they're doing.
