Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

We still have expats at Shell US

Anyone can tell me? They are off loading American jobs, making it hard for families to feed their kids and pay their mortgages. Meanwhile expat's have is all, including kids in private schools---It is not fair, everyone works very hard at Shell....Europe won't even think about this equation..........

It's easier to let the Americans go than the expats.

Sure Reznor, Shell is keeping people due to their survival talents and connections......and their ability to manipulate their surroundings with BS. Please don't even bring value added here, expats are not adding anything compared to local talents....

to Anonymous201679: Yes Americans in Europe get the same perks as Europeans in the US, assuming they are in the "real" (IBAS) expat system. It is pretty fair. Expats are very expensive no matter if they are Europeans or Americans. Non-Ibas staff on the other hand get paid the same as locals, but a few extra benefits for moving expenses, immigration support, etc

Blow a billion $$ on DW wells and still manage to keep a job, all expats. So much for value.

And you think Shell makes no hiring decisions based on affirmative action? I am sure that affirmative action overrides adding value in many, many cases. and no, hiring someone because they are a US citizen is not a form of affirmative action.

From what I have seen, Shell is keeping people due to their talent, not because of their nationality.

You want to be kept because you are American, that is a form of affirmative action.

Be better than those around you and you will do fine. "Keep me cause I'm American." does not work.

It's all about the bottom dollar and who can provide value to Shell.

Many expats (European and other) come to US on local terms so they pay for their own housing, school, and taxes.

Is Shell paying for the private schools? Do American staff get as many perks when they transfer or trade to another country?

So we know who the expats are or the wannabe expats. For the most part they are a non-value add. It's not a matter of dignity etc etc. they just aren't worth the money. Similar as that. It's a good life for them though. I should know. Been there done that.

Arrogant Shellvies. Best off as fast food workers. Who wants to work with failures anyway?

Dude. They didn't take your jerbs. Go work for Exxon if you don't like Europeans. It is pathetic, have some dignity. It is fine to complain about the incompetent decisions leading to billion dollar write downs, just don't turn into a pathetic jingoistic caricature.
