Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Scapegoats and long time employees

So, the process continues. Endless lists of tasks to accomplish. Many more than can be done. Observing the choices of what I choose to accomplish or not. Constant daily task lists and daily reports by email...... But I am not being held to a different standard ? Really... I don't believe it........ Been strung out for 2 months with no contact from HR after several requests....... Being used to cover vacations until my replacement is found. Decision on my fate been pushed back twice... I think only to cover the GM's vacation time.. Mid October, now mid November. With no input on where any of this is going. Again, REALLY... Make a decision and maybe keep me out of the hospital for anxiety, panic attack, or heart attach. No, I'm not making this up. This is eroding my life and emotional well being. It needs to end one way or the other... Have retained a wrongful termination attorney and providing necessary documentation.. It may take a while, and I may not get anything worth bragging about. BUT, I will get JUSTICE...... Vinnie and Mike....... I kept the store running with no support from you and two brand new key holders...... We were all operating out of role to keep the store running and making sales. YES the condition of the store and the daily operational requirements FAILED.. I should be commended for keeping the store going instead of being made a scape goat.... I didn't fail the company....... The COMPANY failed me........ Now that key personal are finally being put in place and things are turning around, you continue to pursue my termination....... Is this the thanks I deserve for keeping it all working ?

Interesting, your experience mirrors mine almost point for point. Last year my GM was canned unexpectedly., As the Team Supervisor in a Tier 4 store, I became the acting GM for 3 months. Zero support from the DM's. Zero. I hired and fired, scheduled, and ran the store as best I could. 50+ hours a week, and 30+ for the part time supe, and over time for the CPC Supe (the other key holder). GM floats came once a week, at first and then once a month. It was like being out in the wild west. We could do anything we wanted, and no one seemed to care. I did run the store as it should and busted my ass for this company to make sure everyone was doing what they were supposed to do. Then I was told by the GM that our lease was renewed for two years, and that this DM had convinced upper management from closing the store. Bullshit. Finally in late November, we got our replacement GM. Everything seemed fine. Then the January layoffs hit. Come to find out that I was never going to be considered for the AM position. The jackhole DM made me wait until the friday before the final announcement for the AM positions to interview me. I could tell by his questions that this dick had no interest in me. This same DM railroaded the IS and Tech Supe as well. Fired them. At least I got my severance out of it. F*** STAPLES AND EVERYONE IN UPPER MANGEMENT.

Is it better to burn out, or fade away? No one "retires" from Staples. You will be fired, laid off, or let go. The anxiety and stress only gets worse until they rip off the band aid. Bow out gracefully. Put in your notice, and let them remember how good you were when your replacement can't figure out the password to the Ship Center kiosk on the day of a divisional visit. Do the right thing for you and your family. Staples is not the right thing.

Same here in California. Best part is every time you accomplish the tasking, like place an endcap here. The very next time your told to take it down or move it. It's never good enough whatever you've done isn't what should have been a priority but was what they harped on everyday. Their goal is to get rid of you but running you in circles and waiting for you to miss any little thing. Then the one time you missed it is written up like it is like that all the time. You'll never win.

For Christ fk sake - DO MORE THAN THE ATTORNEY THING - WRITE YOUR CONGRESSPERSON & LET THEM KNOW THAT YOUR EMPLOYER IS FKNG THE LIFE OUT OF YOU AND MAKING YOUR LIFE PURE SHIT....Here' find your rep by your city & write them. The only way you will have a quality of life is if the law is changed to punish companies that consistently do the wrong thing.

Same boat....looks like a lot of us folks are in the same boat. Going to laugh hard when these same guys (DMs and above) are put on the chopping block...they will bring in people with little to no experience and the RVP and SVP will start holding them accountable and they will see that they have shot themselves in the foot. Hang tough and know that you are not alone

Really need to compare notes with others in same situation and look into Class Action.

Right there with you , Someone. Same story, given more work than can possibly be done, not allowed to do it myself because of MoDing, or Prime-Time, or just busy covering call outs and now-shows. No associates to delegate to. IS is buried neck deep in tasks, no one scheduled days with them and the night O/S person usually on register or covering USPS, barely gets a half assed pull list and blocking done. POGs, mids, freight? Forget it, not happening. Constantly bitched out about when things will be done, but told I can't go over 45 hours.

I get a shitty eval, then a PIP. Keeped around to cover vacations in my store and loaned out to others for coverage and fix things for big visits. DM tells me I did a great job redoing and filing PoG for a visit, then the other shoe drops when vacations and visits are done and I'm let go. I had been sick as hell from stress from that place for the last year.
