We are relatively busy one day a week. The area is dead the rest of the week. How long is this going to go on? It is almost unbearable to sit around all week. So much gossip and rumors!
Our dept has several employees in the $16.00-$$22.00 range that show up to about three hours of work to do every day. This has been going on for about two years now. It is talked about constantly and joked about. These people think it is funny to be given a paycheck for not really having to do any work. Lay offs happen and all of these people still remain employed. Clearly, clearly. the manager of this area is cheating the company out of profits because he wants to keep his job and says nothing to his superiors. At some point this area will be absorbed with another area or areas and then everybody will b--ch about what a raw deal they have gotten. From the top down, what a bunch of dishonest a--holes; ripping the company off. Honestly, where is the oversight. You all should be ashamed of your selves!
We just had a lay off. Why are we still so slow?
Any company that continually pays people a lot of people not to work because you have sent their jobs overseas. Anyone who is willing to come to work every day to spend the day gossiping and and on line and willing to be paid for it is a company and are people I don't want to work for or with. Is there anyone out there that has some integrity? My last day is the 30th. Really, this place is a zoo.
You have to sign your memorandum and send it to employee relations. Also if you participated in the VSP and were asked to stay on for a bit longer than you'll have to wait approx 10 days after your last day. Hope that helps!
It should go direct deposit. Approx 10 days after you signed your severance.
I signed up for the VSP but haven't seen the check yet , anybody knows when it will be released ?
One to two month ago, an article from web saying that micron debt is few times higher than The cash it has ( I can't remember the amount). But this article was no where to be found few days after. Is that true? Is micron in deep trouble? Will it be sold to another party. Like Intel or Chinese company own by Chinese government?
It's no more than posturing to fend of hostile buyers or cleaning up the register for an intended buyer. Either way, this little bubble could easily burst in an instant if pricing goes back down. Expect Micron to either sell or diminish in the next 4 years. Once China gets up to speed with the 160 billion dollars it's government has invested in the memory sector, pricing will plummet and Micron will be out of the game for good. Well at least in the USA that is..... It's the ultimate play on the market really, spend more than any company (aside from Samsung) and eventually you will price your competitors out of the market. I've heard from many sources that there will be another round of layoffs November ish, even possibly the closure of another technology node. Also with the last round of layoffs not looking as good on paper as hoped and attrition rates higher than planned, expect time in position to play a fairly large role in the next round. What that means is there will be some very unusual layoffs from the common sense perspective. It's an important condition to understand when analyzing the employee relations perspective. When a company has low retention or high attrition it gives market investors the impression that the consensus is employees no longer think its a good place to work. This is especially true when there is a marked increase in attrition.
MU stock was increased 3 weeks ago due to the reason that Micron has sold stocks option to Wells Fargo bank to close debts. Looks like Micron tries to find any solution in order to get out of its bad situation. Looks like another layoff will come.
No. Even with the shedding of jobs and price increases! Expected to be somewhere between loss of -17 to- 20 cents. Not good!!!
Will Micron this quarter result profitable? From news, price of dram and nand is rising.
Q4 will tell a lot.
Oh big deal, that's old news anyway, not a big announcement know who cares? Not the investors, stock went down after the so called news. Know why? Because they know MU will make it fail anyway, quality is so far from top priority it's not even funny so far that they fired most of the people in quality control related jobs. Max outs what a joke crap in and you get crap out just push out so much crap product that by some dumb luck some of it must be reliable right? Only way this company is going to make it is by getting rid of CEO and all board members then bring in some people who actually know how to run this business because the current leadership has no clue. And why only market xpoint for enterprise that is where MU fails best missing sample deadlines, will be surprised if they are still making it in 2 years.
Yeah yeah yeah.... And yesterday I saw St-lin shopping in Albertsons....
What do you mean no announcement do you not look at your email (if still employed). 3D NAND and QantX were announced yesterday. I don't believe it was purported that the announcement was to be regarding layoffs. You may have read between the lines but that would have been a mistake on your part. Micron still needs to get its stock value up or it'll never make it. Too many people dumping and not buying.
Hold tight pal
So much for big announcement on Aug 9th??? All bs on this site anyway...
Previous message is correct. Call HR employee relations and get new check for August 1st.
TOP is vacation and sick leave. Generally that means 50% is considered vacation and 50% sick leave. Idaho State law requires payment of vacation only. Hope that clarifies things.
For those with discrepancies in their final pay you'll need to check and see if you were scheduled to work on August 1st or not. If not then you probably didn't get paid for it. You will have gotten paid for the days you were actually scheduled to work no more no less. If you were scheduled to work and didn't get paid it was probably just a mistake, call or email payroll and they will get another check cut. Idaho labor laws do not require paying out TOP at 100%. Micron is however required to continue its business practice of offering it to those that sign their severance package as they've offered it during every layoff they've done and Micron does work in some states that require it. It's a bit of a catch 22 because to not offer 100% TOP because of where you live could arguably be considered descrimination. If you sign your severance you'll get your severance plus the other 50% of your TOP paid.
For those frustrated with H1B workers, statistically they will survive layoffs at a better rate. There are several factors that play into it, but the truth is unless your part of that conversation you'll never know. Those conversations are very confidential and Micron will not disclose its business strategies (hint: you probably received your signed NDA in your severance material packages).
Yes the situation is not good. Milestones were set and not achieved across the board (they still aren't being hit). What do you expect when most of the technology metrics in the ISP are yellow or red..... When that happens you're left with damage control and the only liquid expense that can be cut quickly is workforce. No company likes issuing a reduction in force but sometimes it has to be done to resolve cash flow issues. Liabilities come due and have to be paid or a cascade of problems follows. Micron has to be responsible and secure its ability to pay those liabilities or it would find itself in the same boat Elpida was in. In this case it meant freeing up money for the next couple quarters. Do you think our lien holders don't pay attention to the financial reports? It's just business. Also a lot of people here seem to imply only bad workers got laid off, that's simply not true. If you were a bad workers you would have been fired and not offered severance. Please everyone put that debate to bed.
All speculation aside, it still boils down to profitability and keeping shareholders happy. How is Micron doing in that department? I suspect if things do not turn around soon more layoffs to follow with rumors of buyouts and mergers.
You get the other 50 percent when you sign severance agreement and return. I also was only paid for July 30th. August first is last date of work per paperwork. That should be paid as well
Shouldn't Top time be paid out at 100% since it's considered normal wages? This is all I could find..
'Vacation pay due at termination? The Idaho Code says that payment for earned vacation is considered wages, and the Idaho Appeals Court has ruled that such payment must be made, as wages, at termination. Idaho courts have awarded triple damages to ex-employees when the employer failed to pay for earned, unused vacation (ID Code Sec. 45-615, ID Code Sec. 45-617'
I only got paid for July 31st and not August 1st as last day paid as well. Need to call HR
I received August 1st Pay on 8/6 including the 50% payout of top time, so much for getting 100% thanks Micron.
The problem is that lots of H1B and L1 employees from the same region/color have been hired and work at the same departments for Micron. These departments are being controlled by the same group of employees and bringing privilege to their "homie", in spite of the fact that some of them are not doing their work as needed and just being covered by their "homie".
Man, what happened to your American competitive spirit? You guys (Americans) inspired me so much since I have known myself... That is why I chose this country to continue education and hopefully a carrier.... Now this is all u have left? : "Oh Samsung is three years ahead... So we give up.... "
Please Bear in mind that the US did not become the biggest superpower of all times with this kind of attitude.
Enough of lecturing tonight.... No hard feelings, just wish well for all....
"Catch" Samsung? Are you high? Micron's between 2 and 3 years behind them on 3D NAND. You have some top-secret project to develop a time machine in your department? How else you plan on closing a gap that large? 3 years from now, we might be where Samsung is today, if we all give it 100 percent (for about 75% of our previous pay). Hope Samsung doesn't plan on making any advancements in the meantime, so we can "catch" them.
On an unrelated topic, I notice that Scott DeBoer kept his job through this round of layoffs.
Anyone wbo got vsp check your pay. It is suppose to be for 7/31 to8/1. The letter states August 1 as last day of pay. The check is physical check and August 1st is not included. MICRON OWES YOU AUGUST 1ST PAY.
No, sir/madam. I didn't mean that. But there is a general atmosphere of blaming the layoffs on H1B workers. This might be true for some fields such as IT. Not the case for Semiconductors, nanotechnology and academics.
And no, dude. The purpose of life isn't to catch Samsung. But all of us should have a collective effort to keep this country's technological lead. You don't know how bad I want this country to excel, and I will do all in my power to achieve this in my field. The closest goal in this course is to help catchup with Samsung and make sure Micron is doing well. This my tribute to US , it's great people and Universities who invested in me more than 8 years, so that I reach were I am right now. Just some comments about H1B people like me is disgusting and childish. Remember Trump's wife came as H1B ;)
So let me get this straight.... people who were laid off simply didn't work hard enough? And all we have to do is work harder to catch Samsung? Yeah, I don't think so...
Please.... Don't make your incompetence in keeping your jobs into a political statement. With due respect, H1B or not, the government and private companies will find ways to protect/keep their intellectual assets, which among other things include hardworking foreign citizens who has got advanced degrees in this country with scholarships that come from your pocket.
Here's something short and sweet.....
Vote Hillary = more H1B/ immigrants workers at Mircon and in the US.
Vote Trump = LESS! PERIOD!!
And no I'm not a racist. Neither one is great but worst is better than horrible! Our country is going to s--t! Companies and Gov care about and give them more than us Americans! Look at what's happening to Germany and the Countries over there...
Welcome to Globalistm and Socialism. Middle class will pay for everything!
Any employment is at will. You get payed for what you worked for. Both parties could end the employment without a reason or need a reason.
Fine , don't. But then don't complain about Samsung, Hynix , Asians and H1B workers. That is the way the world is. It is called competition.
Employees whom shut up and work their a## off for Micron just get layoff! the rest will stay...
Sorry, I'm not going to shut up and work my a## off for Micron just because you get on this post and tell me too...
Guys, why don't you just shut the f--- up, stop rumoring and her your lazy asses to work?
You want to best Samsung, you have to work like Asians . PERIOD. No way around it- there is no glory without sacrifice.
H1B is awesome.
