Eleven and a half hours of nothing to do on a Sunday sitting in a Micron warehouse once again. We are 30 to 40% overstaffed, with layoffs going on and everyone stays in this department doing nothing every day. So ridiculous.

Looks like this layoff might sting a little with more to come over time

Boise Facility is becoming an R&D site. You need to be highly skilled, college educated, specifically skilled in certain areas to be able to keep your job. Low end skilled jobs are going sooner or later looks like sooner right now.

In this area nothing for us to do on a daily basis is what we do for a living. Nothing! Sure makes you proud. The fat cats upstairs cashing those big checks for accomplishing nothing every day. Proud of that?

When DRAM prices fall there will be layoffs, whether it is next month or next spring. That's just the way it is.

There is more gossip and complaining in this area. We are small so we fly under the radar. Almost no work for us on a daily basis. People going home early all the time, and yet they still keep paying us to sit around and now football season is coming with gambling , football pools and sports talk all day. who can come to work every day and do this? Unbelievable!

Didn't you know that management taking huge salaries for doing little to no work is the Micron way? Where have you been?

What departments in Meridian were affected?

Apparently the Meridian ID office experienced some layoffs just last week. The layoffs haven't completely stopped yet.

Managers and Supervisors in certain departments would rather lose money by having employees do nothing all day, than to stick their neck out by introducing ideas that have what some might call forward thinking. Just go along to get along. That's why the same things happen over and over.

Why do we have a night shift in this dept? We ship nothing and there is nothing to do. Day shift comes in in the morning and they have nothing to do. Why doesn't anyone see this and why is this acceptable?

We are always busy in my dept. If you are in area that is usually not busy and you are overstaffed that is a problem in many different ways. When you are in an area that hasn't much to do over a long period of time everyone just scrambles to create phony work just to stay employed. That's not work.

It shouldn't take long for the new CEO to realize this company runs too fat. A"lean" staffed workplace keeps everyone busy and keeps a lot of work day problems at bay. Look for a work reduction in the future. It just makes sense.

Seems that there a couple of Managers leaving from our area and it's about time. Now if they can reduce the rest of the workforce by 30% the rest of us will be able to stay busy actually doing 'WORK" all day.

We need one Manager one day supervisor; one night supervisor. Instead we have Five Managers and several supervisors for 20 something employees. There is this shift and that shift and nobody does sh-- on any fricking shift. There is no work in this dept. It is being run and staffed like it was eight years ago. Since then our work load has diminished by 80% Yet the staffing is still very high. Where is the integrity

of management people taking huge salaries for doing no work?

I work in a "warehouse" area, but I never come to work anymore expecting to actually" work". Those days are over. Our work has been moved overseas, so we come to work every day with almost nothing to do every day. That is the way Micron wants it. As one person said "just ride the Gravy train"

All of you people "working " there doing nothing for the past seven. And no one was in charge of your patents? A lot of them are going to go abandoned because you were not "working " what a nut of losers

Yes. Some of this is true on here and some is not. Durcan is smart. More to come soon. There are some talented people specifically in the high level engineering roles. That is declining real fast though as senior leaders are bolting fast. * firmware*

The comment about HR is spot on. How do senior HR people go to work everyday? Lol. Maybe once Durcan leaves the new person will see right through the favortism and make HR be accountable. If you are a yes person and stay way under the radar and do nothing in your cube. You are ok.

On the internet all day. On my phone all day, and I get paid for it all day every day. If my Manager wants to pay me for that I will be happy to take Microns money! This is the new Microrn. Give our jobs to China and pay us to screw off every day. Makes sense to me

Is it right? Micron may have another layoffs in April.

Why hasn't the board fired Marc Durcan yet? The man has tried to retire at least 3 times in the last 15 years. How many layoffs has this man approved now? Micron as a company is doomed unless they significantly diverse their portfolio by innovating and catching up to existing technology. The debt to income ratio is staggering now with the complete purchase of Inotera and the only thing saving Micron is futures that DRAM demand keeps climbing. Once it goes down again its the same old story. Some scary times are ahead especially with China is wanting to invest 100 billion into semiconductors. There is some talk about another acquisition with AMD although if that happens say good bye to the relationship with Intel. Senior and executive management needs new blood and new ideas.

The idea that Managers ,Supervisors or even lead operators for that matter are some kind of "special" workers or "special" people is nonsense. Often it is because they have been in the same area forever because they have been rejected in other departments for other jobs. They can't do anything else and only know one thing. Often they have survived many layoffs so the Micron policy is to promote them. In the case of lead operators they are willing to do more work for a minimal wage hike because Idaho is such a poor paying state they are willing to do anything just to make slightly more money just to make bills. Those reasons among others is why Micron often has very poor leadership. Not to say everyone ,but many . This is no way to get quality people in important positions That is why attitudes in the different areas are so poor. No one likes to be managed by a moron who know less than you but thinks they know everything. It does nothing but create problems.

There will never be restructuring of management. All problems concerning Micron are always because of the employees who work under the direction of management. When products and projects are cancelled it is because the engineers did something wrong. When products don't get shipped it"s because operators did something wrong. It's never a supervisor or managers fault. Sh-- rolls downhill that's why the lower end employees are always worried at layoff time and management never is. Management is never held responsible for anything bad that happens. They take care of each other. Layoffs happen all the time and this year will be no exception!

Yes. Restructuring is needed when times is good. Prepare for the rainy day.

Micron may look good for the coming few quarter as the dram price is on the up trend. But If the company structure remain unchanged, it will still face difficulties, which the company is very much dependent on demand and supply cycle in the market.

R&D is important. Working and direct contribute staff is important.

In micron, Management staff is plenty, VPs, directors, assistant directors, managers, section managers, supervisors and etc, people in these catogory can count in hundreds. Some of them even have only few staffs under them. It's just a waste of resources, and extra cost is added.

Some of them don't even contribute but taking high pay. And worse off, creating office politics.....causing unnecessary problem. This group of people are the one to be sent to The chopping board instead of working staff like Operators, Technicians, Engineers and etc when come to lay off exercise.

With so many management staff, can they really turn around the situation when time is bad????????

Not meant to be mean, but absolutely, positively true. I am seeing more and more comments about just that. What will be done about it ? Absolutely positively nothing. If they brought in an outside service to study how to properly man this operation and the results were to do exactly what your observations have been they would do absolutely positively nothing. After going years without a raise, I just got a raise that pays me about sixty-five dollars a month BEFORE taxes. What a friggin insult. That's todays Micron!

I have been here only over a year. Some observations:

1)This company has way too many directors and VPs. The CEO needs to cut them down to half. Replace them with real workers

2) Very talented engineers suffering because of top heavy company

3) Worst HR department you can find anywhere. They need to be cleaned out completely and start from scratch. Want something broken? Call HR
