Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Run 4 yo' life

Can a manager or supervisor save certain people from being laid off? Or does corporate really make the decisions? What if your supervisor is hooking up with one of your co- workers? It's sad really because said coworker is a really crappy employee. Can she/he be saved over someone who is not lazy and deserves to have a job?

My boss is an fugly a%% dude. And the side chick "coworker" he is messing with is a butter face (everything is OK looking...but her face)! They have the same thing going on as what da troof is talking about. Shoot we might even be in the same department.

Some don't even deserve to be managers. Especially the incompetent ones who weaseled their way into manager position. I know one manager whos behavior is of malevolence. Uses her position to f**** men. She can't get any attention any other way other than having them work for her. She threatens you to keep what you see and hear to yo-self or she'll make your life hell.

Ya your manager will definitely retaliate if you make yourself known to be the one who reported it. Your manager, HR, etc will also lie to their manager and go on a smear campaign to discredit you. A common thing there. If your manager is underhanded, deceptive and con artist like mine then I'd take some time to plan things out strategically to expose your manager ) take your time and plan it out carefully, your steps should be calculating ...Use same tactics method or whatever with your managers booty call subordinate.

You are in a very toxic work environment. Bad. Just bad and it won't get any better unfortunately. There's always that bad apple that spoils the bunch. NOV basically doesn't care whether a manager + subordinate carry on in a romantic relationship as long as they don't get caught (solid evidence) sure NOV has policies in place but do they adhere to it? No. All those so called policies (sexual harassment, etc) are only for show. That in itself should say a lot. I have seen bad suggestions implemented because they came from the person who was in the relationship even though the entire staff objected to the decision. I have seen staff complain about the problem which the couple involved vehemently denied. The couple almost always thinks their relationship is causing no issues whatsoever. I've seen a subordinate who had no business knowing about others salary, personal information (employee records) it's very simple. Dating someone who reports to you creates obvious conflict between personal interests and business obligations. Every action you take regarding your romantic partner will be obvious to others. Worst of all the subordinate party may feel pressure to continue the relationship for fear of consequences in the workplace. What HR should do is transfer one employee to a different department, draw up a formal reprimand, fire the offending workers, remove a worker from a supervisory position or suspend the employees. Employers who want a great working environment for their employees need to prohibit all types of conduct in the workplace that can foster dissension and turmoil. The correct professional and social relationship among employees fosters productivity.

Anonymous188073 this sounds exactly like what we are going through. I wonder if NOV can look at im's or things like that? I am at a loss here. I feel like it is a waste of time to say anything. It won't get us anywhere. This coworker has tried to set several of us up to say negative things to about our boss so they can go back and tell her/him.

I feel your pain. I truly do. Been there. Had a coworker, we'll call it (diseased smug) who wasn't worth 2 shits. Not even qualified nor did it know how to do its job. The only reason why diseased smug continued being employed is because diseased smug was 'pure evils' bitch. Pure evil gave diseased smug special preference. That was obvious. We knew whats up. Diseased smug looked down on coworkers tattling & making things up just to make itself look good & got away with it. It was allowed to say & do anything it wanted. Manager, we'll call it (pure evil) overlooked all the terrible & vile things diseased smug did & said. Well of course, isn't that the way it goes when 2 are involved in a romantic relationship (manager & subordinate) within a business. Diseased smug pretended to be your friend (manipulation tactic & sucked at it) but it was only a facade. It complained & twisted what we'd say then tell pure evil. Pure evil believed the lies, immediately showing its fangs by stepping up its game. Tried to destroy our self worth & bring misery. Didn't work. Lol. Diseased smug and pure evil tried to hide their romantic relationship or they thought they did. We knew. We saw. We heard. Manager (pure evil) also thought it had us fooled. Little did it know, we weren't but we made them believe we were. This went on the entire time. All I can tell you is document, record, document, record, document, record, document, record, document...just don't get caught while recording. Gotta always be one or two steps ahead of them...you get the idea. You never know if you'll need all that info later. Sooner or later bad things, evil behavior and secrets will surface and be found out. Whatever is done or said in in the dark (secret) will eventually be brought to light. Put your emotions aside and think logically. You have several choices here. You can either, say nothing & continue to deal with it or you can transfer or find another job or you can take action (document, play the game, be just as covert as your manager & your disgusting smug coworker & beat them at their game, not sure how far this will get you/depends on your motives) The choice is yours. Good luck & God bless!

All I will say is said coworker walks around like he/she is untouchable. I was wondering if that is really the case. It is utterly disgusting. I don't have enough evidence to report it. Also, if I reported it my supervisor would definitely try to retaliate. She/he is like that. Trust me this is not just an assumption. There are many facts that are involved. I just don't think NOV cares unless you have something solid at work. I am not willing to take that risk.

I won't say which division or which production manager, but he did have input on the layoffs and he picked the slugs, the lazy, and the scammers.

I'd say blast their names on here. Name and shame them baby. This is a very common theme at NOV where your manager abuses its power of authority over others to do what it wants. Or you can blow the whistle by reporting it anonymously to the NOV ethics hotline. A friend of a friend was doing the same thing, it got reported and that manager went out on all out psychotic vendetta. It backfired. Nothing ever stays hidden forever. One way or another the truth will always surface. What goes around comes around. Your call.

Uhmmm.....no names please. It's unnecessary. Suppose you've been laid off and someone drops your name on here, it's not cool. Drop hints if you want, but no names ...
