Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Dear Steve, It's a great feeling that I'm going to come to work this morning around 10:30am knowing that in 1 month that I don't have to come in anymore, because I found another position at another company that is offering me a big promotion, a much better comp package in SD. And that I pulled this off well before any layoff that might happen here, when other folks will be scrambling to find a job. Even though I will leave some RSU's on the table, I've just completed vesting the bulk of my options and RSU grants from years back. Plus my new employer dangled a much bigger carrot in front of me. It's not like I really need to work given the financial windfalls I've had as a bachelor with very simple financial needs, all of which are already paid off. But I do like to design, implement, code, hack, and wouldn't give it up if I could do it at the right environment. But somewhere along the line, during the past few years, things have gotten really weird with the Q. I'm finding out that rather than taking the time do things right, I've been in many situations which required me to just slap shit together and ship crap, most of which isn't even QA'd. And when I do bring up that the shipping shit hasn't been QA'd, I get the weirdest look from the PMs as if I'm the one that is insane. I said PMs (plural), not PM(singular): I have 3 breathing down my neck all the time. Come on now. 1 is bad enough, but 3??? Don't PM's have anything better to do? How many bean counters do you possibly need Steve for the same project? No efficiency problem there! I swear, your PM's must hold meetings, just to decide when to hold the next meeting, where they will decide when they should hold the next meeting, to bean count. It's like your PM's have a PM pow-wow and all get together and sing a song like "Let's hold meetings, yes we can...I got a whole lot of beans and we need to count". Something that was once enjoyable to do, you know real engineering, is virtually non-existence. It just sucks to ship shit like this, and spend a bulking supposedly engineering time to filling out stupid metrics, reports, status, and spreadsheets. Yes, Steve, these jobs that PM's are suppose to do often time end up in engineering laps because the PM's you have are even incompetent at bean counting. What did you expect when you hired PM's with a Bachelor of Bean Counting from University of Phoenix? And you wonder why when we ship shit like this, customers are all pissed off. Of course, since you have 3 PM's that are all on the same project, when shit does happen, there's no accountability because at that point, it's all finger pointing. Why not? Perfect strategy. No accountability whatsoever, especially if the 3 PM's don't even talk to each other! Ah yes modern day engineering process at the Q. A lot of hand waving, and lot of cut, copy, paste, a lot of "ship it" without testing, and lots and lots of metrics about status. This is definitely more entertaining than the big tent run by PT Barnum. But enough is enough. If I want to join a circus, I'll join a circus. So I give up. I quit. There. Happy? Once less expense. Should make the shareholders happy. But hey, make sure I count towards the number your report to wall s treet. During the next month, Steve, please offer to take volunteers who want out with a nice severance, so that those that want to stay and who have no choice elsewhere can remain, while the rest of us like me with job options and who want out, so they can leave well with a nice partying package. You want us out anyway, because until then, I'm going to come in a 10:30am, work out, surf the web, eat lunch early, return from lunch late, workout, and leave around 4:30pm, and really f*** up work morale here. I mean, I'm not only going to be 0% productive, but actually negatively productive. More meetings, more status, more email, more reports, more runaround, more finger pointing. In other words, Steve, for the next month, I'm going to behave like 95% of the PM's in this company!!!!! Yeah! Since, I am out of here and no longer care about the delivery date, I can play this retarded game too, just to watch others squirm. And then when I hand in my 1 week notice, I'll be expecting that nice 6 week accrued vacation that you'll have to pay out to me, half of which I'll take right before my 1 week notice, right before a project is due. But the best part is of all of this? I get to be manager at the new company, Steve!!!! And maybe that means that a lot of the asshole spineless 1st level "managers" who are too chicken-shit to stand up to PM's and actually do things right might end up applying for a job at my new employer, after they are laid off. Assuming they still have any technical merit, I might interview them and might even consider hiring them (we do have headcount and are hiring). Unfortunately, they would lose their manager title, assuming they still have a reasonable/employable technical ability. But hey, like I always say, your employee at one company might end up being your employer at the next, and what comes around goes around!!! PM's need not apply!
