This makes 12 sneaky ways
Call it a consolidation of services and offer all affected employees follow their job to a location that is 400 miles from their home. yes.. 90% over 40, pension etc.
Wow! what a commute.
In your lifetime, Intel will become a subsidiary of a large Chinese firm.
It is the fate Intel Corporation so richly deserves!
I've seen Intel corral "Over 50's" into a single department and then eliminate the whole department. That's not discrimination, the whole department was eliminated. :-) Often a few younger individuals would also get caught in the action but often they would land again in redeployment. If you're young and you see your department bringing on a lot of "Over 50's" then get the hell out in a hurry!
This is happening at Wind River Systems. right now. Lots of conflict between older and younger workers. We have a board here, too.
Angry RCG has graduated to the "f word". So sophisticated. You're sure to move up quickly once the "old farts" leave.

Tell them right on their face that they are old steers and no more needed. Ask them to get the f--- out and stop whining about the good days.. Those days are gone and they have already been paid for the work done in the past. Tell them clearly that their honeymoon period, working from home, sneaking away from work, coming at 10 and leaving by 2, etc. are just justified considering the high pay being given to them - just because they are older then others. Tell them to pack up their filth and get the f--- out of the company and never to return again. This is the ideal way of firing. Just like we sell off all old furniture and get new one, kick out all old farts and get freshers from the college
You forgot #2.
- Layoff. The company is supposed to attach to a layoff notice a list of other employees included and excluded from the layoff, along with their ages. Employers can be sneaky about the way they put together these reports. Some will show only select departments or specific job titles, which don’t give the whole picture. More often, they’ll include a few under-40 employees to make the bloodletting look less like age discrimination.
I am missing one, but here is the list...
