Do you guys know what's a typical severance pay package for someone who joined last year? Please let me know.

I hope so
You get 3 months paid but at your regular pay date. They do not re-hire nor can you work as a contractor for them ever again.
As to this policy preventing lawsuits is just crap and not true. They do it because they don't want people who know how bad they treat their employees from having anything to do with new hires. I was told it was because if people were hired back that they might do something in revenge. Really, most people will tell them to take their job and stuff it if they don't want to go back.
Lies and more lies. Especially where they claim to be ethical when in fact they do business with IT firms that have been caught abusing the H1B Visa program.
Depends on how long the employees have been with Cummins and also, you cannot get rehired, once laid off you cannot come back to Cummins. That's the part of the severance deal - many companies are doing this, it makes no sense to me but I was told that is to prevent lawsuits, etc.
