I'm thinking about accepting an offer in the IT dept but wanted to get a better feel for overall moral in this dept first. My two interviews were depressing as hell and I got the sense no one likes working here anymore. What happened? This place used to be the best place to work if your were in IT but now it looks like no one cares anymore. Did I miss something? It's so depressing it's making me reconsider the offer I accepted.

Yea, I definitely wouldn't go into oil and gas right now if you aren't already in oil and gas... My husband was hired in it at a great salary in an amazing position from another city (Devon moved us to OKC) and then he was laid off 8 months later as part of their huge IT cut. I would be terrified to accept a position there as we continuously hear rumors of more cuts coming there. They don't care if you're new or not.
Morale
Agree with the response here. Devon pays well - but money cannot compensate for trust and good leadership. Amen!
Another thing to remember if you have a friend that recommended you take a job there and they are telling you how great it is, they are probably getting a $3000 referral bonus for luring you in. Which I guess does make it really great for them, and they may really feel it is great especially if they don't work in IT.
If you already have a job that you feel is fairly secure and you are moderately happy there - I wouldn't leave it just for more money at Devon. A lot of the it people here would leave if the economy was better. It is a miserable environment where a lot of people are stressed and worried everyday that their position will become eliminated. As a newer hire you may be safer than most but with the stock tanking $10 in the last few days I think IT will once again be considering how necessary every position is.
