Thread regarding Mortenson Construction layoffs

I wasn't laid off nor was I fired for one of the zero tolerance policies. No, I was forced to resign.

Backed into a corner, I was told I'd be fired if I didn't want to resign. Shocked and taken off guard would put this situation in a much lighter context. Without any indication and little to no evidence of reason. No disciplinary actions, no documentation of prior incidents. Over 3 years with this Co and in an instant ripped my life in two. Not even a severance. Within weeks I was in danger of a financial meltdown. My recommendation to those working for our applying, don't ever strive to be the best you can be, not here, they are full of empty promise and lies putting personal preference above professionaism.

Otto S. has been an employee at Mortenson for 30 years!!! At least that is what he told me. His is a foreman carpenter and likes to brag repeatedly that he is on PROBATION at Mortenson due to his behavior. He constantly goes on screaming tirades with people, then calms down and tries to be their best buddy. Uggh!! He brags he is on medication for his bi-polar. Really? Not working! Anyway, He went unhinged on me a little over a year ago and picked up a two by four and threatening to hit me. I told him "go ahead, I dare you!" I was so angry. I wanted to go immediately to "the office" and report him. But, of course, because I am female, i have no protection and would be immediately "laid off" for some other false reason. I know this because my experience has demonstrated to me that reporting violence only gets me in trouble.

That being said, several people witnessed the threat and laughed about it. One person that I considered a decent guy and someone I worked with a lot told me "don't be the person who goes to the office to complain." That was the attitude. Not one man stood up to this guy, not one! I had not even been talking to Otto S. when he threatened me - it was completely out of the blue and made no sense. It was clear to me that he had power and maybe had some kind of black mail on upper management. Otherwise, why was someone like him, a complete danger to union workers on the site, able to stay employed for 30 years with Mortenson, when upper management KNEW he was violent?

I wish I could afford a lawyer regarding this bullshit. Apparently, hardworking, honest people are not welcome. If I was drug addled, violent, and just plain stupid, I would be employed nonstop.

Mortenson is the worst general contractor I have seen in 30 years in the trades. They say they will pick up the premium time for contractors to work overtime, then they don't pay. They are more concerned with their nitpicking rules than getting the job done. The job I'm on they tore down the elevator skips when the job was only half done. Now have 2 small elevator cars for 300 guys and their material. Thousands of dollars a day is being spent for guys standing in line for the elevator. They want to be one of the big boysof general contractors, but they never will be.
