I was an ex-employee part of the Nov 2015 purge and opted for option 1. Good Luck with EI; the sneaky thing TC did was to make it look like you quit - which makes it impossible to qualify for any EI benefits.

Speaking with the EI folks - who are not at all compassionate with the Alberta situation told me to look into "social assistance" programs.

Best of Luck.

I am seeking out to the ex-employees, who got laid off from TransCanada in Nov 2015. We were given a choice of two options.

Option 1: Get severance package with immediate resignation

Option 2: Work for another 16 weeks and leave without severance package

So far I know that majority of the people chose option 1 due to financial gain. As a result, we are not eligible to collect EI. I have applied twice and got rejected and in a process to appeal at Social Security Tribunal department.

I was told by offices of local MLA and local MP that it was handled in a very stinky way. As you all know that other oil companies laid off their employees and given them a handsome severance package and after that, they were able to collect EI.

This is only my speculation that why TCPL handled in a way is because they were not transparent on how many people they laid off. Because as per their employment record, it will show the people quit or voluntarily resigned. This will save TC's reputation to the media, its competitors and to the general public. Due to this very reason, hundreds of ex-employee of TC are not able to get their well deserved EI.

My question was to all the ex-employees if any of you were lucky to receive EI after you chose option 1.

Thanks,

I currently work at TC and have been through both layoffs this year. The late November one still has no numbers officially released and even at the director level internally they don't know the extent of it. I'm suspecting there may never be an official release of numbers regarding it. My feel is it was somewhere in the range of 200-600 people and I do this for a living.

Where did you get that information? I am no longer there :0, but was told it was way less than that. There is less transparency this layoff than there was in the June purge so getting information has been really difficult. thanks
