What Kind of Severance Package/Job Assistance do You Get if You're Laid Off?

I was told there are job placement services available. What are these? Are they any good?

No extra severance based on age, just 2weeks per year of service. Basic, but they are not required to do anything. Watch out for healthcare though. Cobra wasn't available for me.

2 weeks severance plus a week for each year of service with a max of 26 weeks, but only if you sign the waiver.

They set you up with a company called Right Management, a career assistance outfit that provides the normal services - job banks, industry databases, counselors, training opportunties, resume writing, etc. Not bad.
