Recently told to be moved to the GEC; some others were told to have work only until Marc-2016 - Any advise on the new GEC model ? What are the pros/cons ?

I know personally four engineers on a GEC that have been made redundant this past week. GEC seems to have been used or targeted, during reductions. I had been trying understand my own situation (I was made redundant last year) and I was trying find a any shared point. Age, nationality, function etc. the only one I could see was GEC. Seems to ring true.
Yes, that's right. The previous "home country" system offers the option of having a plan B to return to your normal job/group/country when your assignment finish for whatever reason. In the new GEC that possibility does not exist anymore, so you are depending on whether you will find a new assignment in your current country or in any other operation .... and due to the current conditions, it seems that there wont be many opportunities in the short and medium term but a lot of competition in a depressed market.
I think there is not any major difference in the economic compensation/benefits in the new GEC, just some adjustment to adapt to the new currency and package .... perhaps some benefits (social payments, taxes) of the old system in your home country are gone now ...
BP is increasingly using this GEC for managing expats ... I heard many people in Houston, UK, Azerbaijan and Asia has been moved
The truth is, you'll be easier to get rid off by having this contract. Trust me I was there. Try to read the contract again.
