2,000 To Be Laid off by Sprint in 2016

Here is the part of the math that I do not get. So, the message is that we'll have to save two billion dollars. Right? And now people are telling us that up to 2,000 people may be laid off. So if I am doing math correctly here, 2,000 * $100,000 gives you $200,000,000, so $200 Million, not even close to 2 Billion (I am assuming that each employee is costing Sprint about 100K per year). So, if we are talking here about 200M and we need to be at 2B, where is the difference going to come? Are they going to lay off 20,000 people? I think that's impossible as we have about 30,000 overall. So, any ideas here? What's going on?

I've been here since the 90's and have survived through layoffs numbering in the teens. The reason people have stayed isn't because of our great respect for the quality leadership. Quite the contrary. We've been through so many CEO's that have made huge and costly mistakes that have culminated in the truly horrible position Sprint is in right now. I stayed because the actual day to day job has always been great. I've had solid managers, flexible schedules, great benefits and more importantly...a solid separation package. We've all felt compelled to ride it out because we knew we had a great package waiting for us if the worst came down. Nothing like the golden parachutes the lead team has, but for the average employee it was pretty solid.

Now they're adopting measures to cut long term employees and slash severance packages. I'm praying they cut me before the deadline and my heart goes out to those that are left behind. The company has shown their hands on how much they value the individual under this new leadership. It's been a great ride, but the party is over.

It is funny how the employees are bad mouthing Sprint. Most companies go through a reorganization to try and make the company more efficient. You chose to work for them and stayed. So now they are bad and can't do anything right? You should have quit a long time ago. Cost cutting is more than just layoffs. My guess is that Sprint will reduce expenditures by delaying upgrades to towers.

We've already gotten several notices regarding cost cutting sent from corp. I know they are starting with operating costs. They have also cut back on customer courtesy credit availability, & limited a lot of self service options to strictly self service via the website & zone app. So they are budgeting from several places other than just lay offs. But it is certainly coming. Actual Sprint owned locations will be first because employees there are paid well more than vendor locations. I would assume they would start with employees & locations they pay out more to operate vs laying off the low cost locations.

We lost 5000 in 2014, that was about 15% of our total workforce, anything is possible. Look at T, ATT and VZ, all of them are cutting big time, probably 10,000+ over last few months
