Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Laid off after 7 years and replaced immediately

This post is not intended to seek sympathy. I wonder if anyone has experienced this too. My replacement is a young blood. Never held my position. From a totally different position. So NOV is ok training and putting business opportunities at risk than experienced employees. If this is the new trend we may have well been notified

age 18 through 25 are considered young bloods. Age 26 through 30 are still considered young. Age 31 through 35 are not as young. At age 36 through 39, you're still aging & about to reach your 40's. At age 40 and beyond you're in a protected class. Old is not considered old until you're between 65 & 70, retirement age.

Move in cheap workers and invariably once trained they move to higher paying jobs with competitors, its a well known fact and has been happening for years now but upper management don't seem to think it's a problem. Now competitors are well advanced equipment wise compared to NOV, that is a simple fact, this company is years behind but you'll get people who say otherwise probably because they don't have a clue and aren't out in the field at various sites and rigs.

I have seen these at my facility. Our new SR MGT has been cutting the older more experience employees with many years of service. NOV pride itself before with long term employees but unfortunately now new VP doesn't not believe in this. Too Bad.! Your right Anonymous181839; to much vacation & years in service can be a death sentence. It would not the first company that change into this mind set in due to hard times.

im at orange, ca. I have been there a very long time. the mentality of management there is any one can run a machine. yes im a machinist. they just don't care or comprehend what it takes to do our jobs. and this will kill this co. having a lot of vacation and years with the co. used to be a good thing ? they could boot me and get some youngster in my place and save the all mighty $$ time will tell.
