Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Stop Bashing HP

I've been at HP almost 37 years, and the main point is this. They never owed ANYONE a job. No company ever does. If you get let go, you get let go. Find another job and stop complaining.

Get of your high horse, please. Let people talk openly, do not try to stop the discussion. If you have 37 years of experience, that's good for you but not everyone is in the same shoes, people who joined recently are getting screwed from multiple angles (worse benefits, worse pay, worse vacation, worse everything)

Ahh entitlement- 37 years of it. I have to agree with the one response that indicated "raging douchebag." And how many hours do you actually WORK on HP related business in a week? 37 years must certainly bring comfort and complacency. Lucky you!

You remind me of my current work colleagues who have been with hp for 20+ years clinging on to their inflated and out of touch salaries and contracts. Tricking themselves into a false sense of happiness and fulfilment because they know fine well they're old and incompetent to find a better job elsewhere. How sad.

Guys, check out the lifer that's backing the huge lifeless corporation that'll inevitably kick you to the curb once they find a cheaper replacement. Enjoy your time in that hellhole buddy.

You've got to be kidding me. Nobody should work for same company for 37 years. Those who do lose perspective of reality.

HP leadership preaches ethics all the time. This is what they mean by ethics.

Mr/Ms 37years, while I agree with your message in practice (not being owed a job and such), you needn't be a raging douchebag with your presentation of your opinion.

Can you share what have you been using to get you high? I would like to have some. It will come in handy when I'm canned.

Hope you can keep hanging on, because after 37 years at one company, you're not very marketable.

I'm not complaining, either, because I had the sense to leave earlier this year. My beef with HP is that it is laying off people not to improve the business, but to boost the bottom line. To add "shareholder value." To meet analysts' earnings expectations. The company doesn't consider cutting things like yacht cruises for executives during OpenWorld or golf outings and cocktail receptions during other trade shows. And don't try to convince me that those activities bring in business. If someone buys from HP because he got a round of golf and some booze afterward, there's something wrong with his business model. HP does need to downsize and retool, but it needs to do it strategically, not slashing and burning like it is now. Layoffs may make a quick impact on the bottom line, but they can kill a company in the long run.

Well, in a couple of weeks, and you'll lose all 37 years of seniority. Good luck with that. You might also want to use your vacation, because that will be gone on November 1, too.

If you have marketable skills beyond kissing Meg's big white hiney, you might want to find another job - assuming you can overcome your current delusional state. Good luck.

Get off your high horse please - a bunch of corporate raiders have destroyed this once legendary company. Sheer greed and incompetence killed it. And now you want us to be silent. We've been silent for too long, the corporate masters are playing their games in the background and this site gives voice to workers, at least we can vent here

Mostly people complain because they can see a great company that they cared about destroying itself (the layoffs being but a symptom).

Apart from that, go f*** yourself you unquestioning passionless cretin.

Who's complaining, I got a good severance package and a few prospects already. I'm happy i got a decent severance. I enjoyed my time at HP. 37 years is a long haul.

Congrats.

Question: Why are you trolling a layoff site?
