Don't sit around and wait for HP to decide your future. Start looking for a new job now. Take control. If you're going to leave, do it on your own terms, not HP's. Check for jobs on LinkedIn. Get in touch with former HPers who are already working at other companies. I started looking for a new job in March, got several offers within a couple of months, and was gone by May. I'm still in technology, but at a company that is thriving. You can do it. Just get out there now!
Use EAP if you can. liveandworkwell.com to talk with someone. Great reliever of stress.
@Anonymous158385 - I am in the same boat. I am causing a lot of problems to my family (easily agitated, unable to focus, lack of drive, etc.) and that's what hurts the most. I am the only one working in the family (wife and three teens in the household) and I often worry about what will happen if I lose my job. We live in the region where it's really hard to find well paid jobs and, with three kids, we had difficult time saving a lot. I just do not know what will happen to me. Praying typically helps.
I feel the same way. Only got about 2 hrs worth of work done since hearing of the WFR. Wreaking havoc on my family as well as I am the bread winner in the family. Sorry, I know this doesn't help, but maybe it helps to know that you are not alone. Hang in there, we will all get through this somehow. There will be better days ahead, so we both (and anyone else feeling the same), just need to remember that.
Try vigorous walks and if you are truly depressed a visit to psycologist is a good thought by prior poster. Change or loss of job are big events but you are not alone. Try to Think of it as a new adventure and embrace the opportunity to move to something new and exciting.
Think happy thoughts
