Thread regarding HP (Hewlett-Packard) layoffs

Already Looking - time to go!!

After being with this company for 10 years, no raise or bonus worth mentioning for 8 years, I should have been looking a long time ago, However, I love the work I do, my team and my manager. So from that point of view, I have always hesitated to leave. After this last WFR notice, and seeing so many friends (that were really good), get let go, I think I need to wake up and I think everyone else still at HP needs to do the same. I know of folks who have left and are so much happier. Imagine getting treated with respect by your employer, where you are not just a number but a person. Imagine giving a company loyalty and getting it back. I have had that with previous employers and it was wonderful. I hate to leave my team, but I think it is time. Had my first interview today, and hopefully I will have a new job within a few weeks.

Good luck to everyone at HP. We all need it. But, I will emphasize that there is no reason to stay there any longer. Get out, before Meg X's you out!!!

HP wants me to commute an hour to work every day to sit in the cafeteria with and engineer software with my laptop 8 hours a day. I can drive 5 more miles for $20k more.

I kind of appreciate Meg for kicking me in the ass and forcing me to find a better place to work. Most of my team will be gone by the end of the year, taking with them years of experience and pretty much ALL of the knowledge of our client's systems with them as they also find better places to work.

@Anonymous157236 is absolute right - NOBODY IS SAFE. they want you to star looking for a job, they want you to leave without severance. if you feel your skills are up to par and if you are in a good region with low unemployment rate, jump on it, start looking right now.

I don't want to sound morbid or anything but i think you should start looking for another job, you know just to be safe. This whole situation shows that no one; from vice presidents and directors, to analysts and accounts, are safe from this purge. Like you said, don't think it won't happen to you, like you're somehow above this. If you survive then good for you, but if you don't then at least you've started to look for jobs already. I'm trying to get this point across to my dad. He's been with HP for 18 years and he's almost 60. He doesn't think there's anything out there for him.
