Thread regarding Bridgepoint Education Inc. layoffs

Bridgepoint

As i have said before,I think you will see them close the On ground campus of the University of the Rockies in Denver within the next 12 months as it continues to be a drain on their profits. Bridgepoint will probably be around in some form as they have $350mil. in the bank but cant seem to figure out what to do with it. I'm sure the stockholders are getting pretty pissed off about the condition of the stock. For profit education as a whole is not doing very well with the exception of a couple of companies. Bridgepoint has not been run well since the beginning and now the lack of real leadership is showing. You all have to remember that the current senior leadership had never run a company prior to owning Bridgepoint. it got to big to fast and they didn't know how to handle that. Now that they are in trouble the are running around with chickens with the heads cut off. They may survive as a much smaller company, but it will never be what it once was as there is too much competition and too many govt. regulations now. I think you will see their operations in Denver (call centers, etc.) continue to shrink as well. I have heard that their San Diego operations have downsized as well.

Bridgepoint has also added many of the former University of Phoenix executives to their top tier management. Scary?

Most of the stock is owned by one large investor, Warburg Pincus. The other investors probably don't care. The organization was built on a scam (buying financially failing colleges like Ashford and using their accreditation).
