Not a QC'er (retired from QC back when it was a great company with Christmas parties). I've been though lots of layoffs, about a 60/40 split of survived/slashed. I never in a 40 year career saw anyone say "yeah, in 2 months I'm gonna lay off 15% of my workforce". I mean, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? You wanna kill morale, you just did it. Every layoff I went through there were signs and signals, but management was always "nope, no layoffs imminent. Not happening. There's the grindstone, put your noses to it". And if I read this board right those laid off have to work 2 more months to get the severance package. Again, whiskey tango foxtrot? Joe got laid off, you really thing having him clear out his desk and GTFO is worse then giving him 2 months to plot revenge, then act on it?
While I'm at it, WTF is a PIP?
