I used to work for another large global company where there also was a huge layoff, not much unlike the job cutting wave we are facing here at HP today. The CEO was like any other CEO, pretty tough and even more aggressive in language and attitude. But during the bad time when cost reductions was in order, he sent out a company wide email asking people to vote if they would opt for 10% RIF or 10% cut in paycheck across the board (including ALL executives).. That was his way of saying we are in this together and we will try to get through it together. ........ There are layoffs in a lot of tech companies, and people react as expected, not too surprising. But the reaction here is downright sick and some makes your stomach hurl. Hard to see human beings can go so low. It is a job at the end of the day and folks should be able to find another. Granted it may require relocation, well that's life.... Also the things that have emerged about this workplace through this site is appalling. Who would in their right mind want to stay here. Unless there is a huge inside Hewlett Packard fix-up and house cleaning done immediately, I don't see any reason why stay here. I don't see this clean up happening anytime soon. There seems to be debates on obvious issues and huge tolerance for questionable behavior and characters..... Just too sad...

Did they use the HP approach (10% RIF and 10% pay cuts)? HP has found that keeps the board of directors and stockholders at bay for another couple of quarters of mis-management
We are trying to turn around a failing company, if you want to be part of it then you must report to Costa Rica on Monday morning. If you are not there on Monday then we'll talk that as your official resignation.
Sincerely yours,

You whiny-ass employees. Get back to work.
Has anyone heard anything more about HP renegotiating contracts with Ciber and Adecco employees, it was from a Business Insider article last week. Does this affect Canadian employees as well
We ended up getting a 10% pay cut... Which went on for I think roughly 11 months or so...don't recall been a while...
What was the results of the vote? ie, perhaps it was 90% in favor of the RIF and about 10% for the pay cut??? As you mentioned there was a layoff, so he simply RIFed the 10% in favor of the pay cut??? I would indeed prefer this employee interactive approach
