I work for HPE, and would like to volunteer for layoffs in order to hopefully obtain some severance. I have almost 6 years in with the company. Are there any managers on this forum who can advise on how I could go about doing this? I have a fairly firm commitment with for a new job with another company who doesn't pull this crap.

I tried volunteering back in June and was told a swift "No"
I know someone that volunteered to be laid off and was given a severance package. They talked to their boss's boss several weeks ago.
I spoke to HR about volunteering during the November purge. They said I would be put on a volunteer list and that list will be given to upper management (typically head of dept). Its their call after that. No guarantees.
I do not think you can volunteer, I'd suggest that you do not tell this to anyone at HP.
